The first time was five years ago,
1 month, 120 pounds,
the second four ago,
1 and 50--now what?
20 per week times four is 80.
That's more than I can physically afford:
it leaves barely a hundred.
Already I feel the drain, confusion,
awkward fuzziness that people associate
with being absent-minded. Already
I worry I'm too old this time, it will go too far.
I wonder sometimes to whom else it happens,
and why, and if they remember
the math.
