If someone wanted to sell their art online, how would they go about it? I don't have any art, but I'm doing research for a friend. Ideally, I wanted to give them some websites that accepted submissions (ie. maybe for magazines, etc.) and paid for art.

Thanks

The easiest way is to submit it to DeviantArt, and submit it as a Print. This way is easiest since all you're doing is submitting the art, then they do the rest of the work. The only thing is it's not all that good for selling it, as it's not advertised or whatever, and I don't think many people go to the website with the intention of buying prints.

Here's the DA print-buying section here:

There are other sites, like cafepress.com that will print onto more than just posters, but they're more for just merchandising and not really used for high quality prints.

I think flickr does a similar service to DA, but I've never really looked into it.

So yeah, that's some good places that will print the art, but actually selling it - ie. advertising and making people want to buy it - is entirely up to you.

Hope that helps.

Interesting. I just made a DA account. Do you know if you have to get a membership to receive profit from sold artwork? (I'm assuming so, but thus far I haven't seen anything specific about it)

Also: What payment methods do they use? (How is the seller paid, I mean)

There's some stuff in the FAQ about that, I think this is what you're looking for:

With a membership there are some advanced options for selling things, such as setting the price it's actually sold for, but it's not really a huge difference.

Here's the Prints FAQ section, if you need to know more:
