That thousand should include flight, hotel, and possibly spending money.
Is it possible? I'm open to any suggestions.

i dont even live on 8 mile you doosh. i live way north of there. i used to live right in the middle of the god damn projects and shit but then we moved. and even when i was living there, i didnt get my ass beat by black people because i adjusted to my surroundings. i was tight with them and vice versa, i did shit with them, vice versa, just cuz theyre black doesnt mean im gonna get the shit beat outta me just cuz im white. its not the 70's, Malcolm. Well, there are plenty of places you could take a car trip to in the US for that amount of money. If you want to get somewhere internationally, my guess is Central/South America is your best bet. The real problem is that you have to include the plane ticket in the cost. You can get by for weeks at a time on around $200 USD in SE Asia.
I've never traveled south of the border in the US, so I can't advise too much on the specifics, but my guess is you could take a bus down to Mexico and then find more transportation from there.

Got back from my last travelling excursion about two weeks ago (spent nearly three weeks in south-eastern europe) and it cost me £500ish, including flights and an interrail ticket.
Flights will be more expensive for you but you don't need the £200 interrail ticket and you're only staying for a week.
Go to Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic (all the central european countries except Austria, basically) and they have a great youth-hostel culture and it's normal to find places for £5 a night. And drinks are still reasonably cheap.
Just looked at some prices - New York JFK to Warsaw return is about $550 so not that bad.

Depending on the cost of air tickets, central American can be very cheap. My ex had to leave the US (to anywhere but Canada or Mexico) for two weeks for visa reasons. By booking ahead of time, we were able to get a round trip ticket to Honduras for about $400. She stayed with some friends there. During those two weeks, she spent less than $200-- including gifts/souvenirs, etc. It's impressive, because I've seen that women spend that much in a single day on fucking beads and glitter. So, yeah, Honduras might not be the best place right now, but check out Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, and Nicaragua.

Im not sure why people dont think you can get a weeks holiday with $1000, google currency exchange puts that at £621. . .
My last two trips to Spain cost £160 then £130, for flights, transfer and an apartment right next too a nice beach for one week each. In a couple of weeks i'm going for 3 days to either Amsterdam or Rotterdam for about £30pp. . . one of them out of season mini cruises. . . A recent month in Kenya was about £500 but that only included a few nights staying in a nice place. . .
Sorry though dont know any Canadian companys but i'm sure if you look around you'll get a good deal especially if your flexible with dates and stuff :/

^ we're lucky. Flights from the US are pissing expensive whereas we can usually get a plane to anywhere in Europe for 30-50 quid.

And you get to pay to use the loo when you're on it. Okay, really, I am very jealous of your cheap international plane travel in Europe. I would just point out that the distances are a bit different.
London to Frankfurt is about 350 miles. From Sacramento (in the central part of California) to Los Angeles (in the southern part) is about 400 miles. I travel pretty regularly from San Francisco to Chicago by plane. This is a distance of about 1850 miles. For perspective, London to Moscow is about 1550 miles. I paid a bit over $200 for that trip last time.

We don't have the pay for the toilet, that was only a suggestion by ryainair or easyjet or bastardair. Ryanair do make you pay for water though :@
Obviously I'm aware of the distance thing. I could have made the same point by saying that travelling in Europe is cheap because it's so compact.
