Ok, I sold a laptop on ebay for 680. Now, I said it had a 2.4 ghz processor in it.. But it really has a 2.25 ghz proccessor... The guy now wants a refund.. He does not have my address or anything I believe... So... What if I don't give him a refund? I didn't offer a refund at all..

will paypal take his side if he opens a dispute?

I don't know, mang. I just don't know.

When you say you didn't offer a refund, do you mean you specifically stated in the listing that no refunds would be given, product as is, &c?

Tell him to send the laptop back if he wants a refund.

Or just don't refund it and run away from ebay forever.

That doesn't matter though, since what you sold him was different to what you advertised. Not that I'm an eBay expert...

Yea, it's a google ad. Idk why it appears as a white square though, maybe it's misconfigured.

On-topic: Don't refund it, 0.15Ghz isn't going to make much of a difference in anything. But do transfer the money out of your paypal account, just in case something does happen, and paypal freezes the account. And if he just gives you negative rep, close that ebay account and open a new one. Or leave it if you have thousands of reputation points.

did you link a credit card or bank account to the paypal account?

because if you did this makes a difference.

Did you receive the money yet? If the funds are frozen, you probably won't ever get them. He payed with PayPal so odds are against you. He'll open a dispute and get his money back and they'll tell him to send the laptop back to you. Next time don't try to dick over your buyers.

Dude, it's .15 ghz difference. That isn't trying to dick-over anyone, it's so small it won't make a difference.

He might be able to get you for that, though. The whole thing is kind of a gray-area, along with hard drives being advertised as "8 GB" but, after formatting, can only hold 7.25 GB or so.

I thought that hard drive thing was bytes vs bits or binary vs decimal or something, as opposed to false advertising?

I don't know of any core2duo processors that operate at 2.25GHz... sounds like the buyer is smoking crack. Do you have the model number of the processor or the laptop?

Also, this:

That's be one angry Bobcat. :D

You can do it one in every 30 times and still have a 97% positive feedback.

well isn't a 2.26 core 2 duo actually a 4.52? seeing as how it has 2 cores?

Cancel the account, run like the wind, shit in a box and send it to his address.

Tell him he'd better watch out for the CP you left on the hard drive. If he doesn't want the FBI at his door, he'll shut the fuck up.

This.

OP is clearly the one in the wrong. The issue is whether or not he can or will get away with it.

Take your money out of your paypal. Close the paypal account.
And while doing that, try to come to a comprimise with him. Use excuses like this. Tell him you will send him some softwhere, ect.

Then when the account is closed. Tell him to go fuck himself.

No, it doesn't work like that.

The whole thing is kind of a gray-area, along with hard drives being advertised as "8 GB" but, after formatting, can only hold 7.25 GB or so.

The hard drive issue occurs because hard drives are advertised in the base 10 system (10^3 bytes = 1 MB, 10^6 bytes = 1 MB, etc.) while they are formatted in the base 2 system (2^10 or 1024 bytes = 1 KiB, 2^20 or 1048576 = 1 MiB). Technically when base 2 is used the numbers should be denoted by a separate prefix (KB = kilobyte, KiB = kibibyte) but this is rarely followed. There's debate over whether the hard drive specs should be changed or the computer software be changed, with the base 2 system being best for programming and the base 10 system being best for human calculations. Some Unix systems (including Apple's newest OS) have changed the way sizes are reported to the end user so that your 60 GB advertised iPod will show up as 60 GB when formatted. I guess we'll see where things end up five years down the road.

well isn't a 2.26 core 2 duo actually a 4.52? seeing as how it has 2 cores?

No because the two cores are addressed independently and unless an application is multithreaded it can only use 2.26 GHz worth of power.

Once upon a time, a long time ago a man(me) bought an Xbox. After receiving the Xbox, he decided he wanted his money back... He decided that the Xbox was broken and didn't work properly so he disputed. Obviously ebay took it, and he sent a box with some rocks to the seller. Buyer gets the refund, THE END

tl;dr: If you are the seller, you get screwed.
