Get big fat headphones and pretend to be an audiophile.

This, get headphones that are the biggest ones and made out of wood. Then you can shit on everyone's headphones around.

Ex:
"Lol, you have iPod earbuds. You're such a fag and I'm better than you! :DJ:"

Get a headset that has a mic. Wouldn't that be all counter-conformist to have a microphone on your ipod headphones. Maybe you'd look futuristic too.

I'd go for the headphones... they look better and they have infinitely better sound than earbuds.

My only arguement for Earbuds is that you can just wrap them around your IPod and then stuff it into your pocket where with headphones you wear them around your neck.

Also, if you're going to school with them, headphones tend to break in a backpack full of books.

EDIT: I'd be embarassed to even stand next to the person wearing those purple headphones, good god those are fucking ugly.

I'd wear them around my neck and crank the volume up....

I advise against it because I was almost hit by a car on my bike when I had headphones and sunglasses on, neither of which helped me be aware of my surroundings.

I doubt the cops will give two shits about you.

I was riding in the car with some girl that got pulled over, allegedly because it looked like she had earbuds in. The police in our city are just bored douches, though, so this might not be applicable to you.

For starters, I'm sure winter in Iowa is cold as fuck, and it's just around the corner. You could spend like half as much as you would on those Grados and get a nice hat and scarf. Some kind of headband would have the same effect as some headphones, too.

I wouldn't say that, although I will agree that quite a few models look absolutely terrible. The problem, in my eyes, lies in the fact that the over-the-ear headphones are expensive and ridiculously easy to break.

I use the stock standard set that came with my walkman S series(the one before the speakers built into it) and they're great and have noise cancelling built into the buds.

Seriously, if you want great audio quality and want to seem like an audiophile than I'm assuming you wouldn't want an ipod.

No, I'm hating because Bose is way overpriced. They sell image.

Don't get me wrong, Bose makes decent quality products. But for their price, you could get much better audio quality. Sennheisers, for example.

/derail
It's especially true for their standalone audio players (the CD/mp3 one). People listen to it and think, "wow, I've never heard my music like this before. It must be good!" But really, it's just equalized different than normal. There's a saying in the audio industry - 'no highs, no lows, must be Bose'.

Do they break easily? Is the cable flexible (you don't know how many times the cable in my earbuds 'broke' right near the jack - I've replaced it so many times that the cable went from 1.2m to about 0.9m)?

Also, I was thinking about something a wee bit more outside sound-proof, like full headphones. Decent bass needed and that's all, I'm not some paedophile.

I use them as my portables and they get a lot of abuse. The cable hasn't shitted out on me yet and I've had it for a year and have it in my pockets almost daily. They work fine and if you're worried about them breaking on you, they have a 2 year warranty so just keep your receipt.

It has a deep natural bass. You'll get sound leakage since the speakers are open, but it's not that bad. I bike around my city and need to go about 80% to take out all of the sound... which is a terrible idea while biking so I usually just have it at 60%.

I really can't say enough good about them though. They're inexpensive, durable, and sound great.
