I think the only tryptamine I have done is DMT, in ayahuasca form, and it was more of a "near death" experience, something I would not want to repeat. The only phenethylamine I've done was lsd and it was far more enjoyable experience.

...for which cyclo(4-butenamid)n,n-dimethyltryptamine is a synonym.
Yes, LSD is a phenethylamine, but only in the sense that DMT is a beta-substituted cyclic phenethylamine dehydrogenate. That is to say, in that it's a tryptamine...
What is the diffrence between tryptamine and phenethylamine experiences?
Varies wildly by SARs. You'll have more difference between methylenated dioxymethyl(a-methyl) phenethylamine and trimethoxyphenethylamine than you would with trimethoxyphenethylamine and 4-hydroxydimethyltryptamine, even when the phenethylamine oxygens have signifigant overlap...
...or, to put it more simply, the effects of mescaline will be more similar to those of psilocybin than those of MDMA.
Getting even wierder, shit like 5-methioxydiethyltryptamine will tend to have more experientally in common with THC than with psilocybin - the latter of which is a tryptamine so closely related that you'd think they'd be identical. 'n on the flipside, while DOC (a phenethylamine amphetamine) is considered almost indifferentiable from LSD, DOH (another phenethylamine amphetamine, identical except for the hydrogen at the 4-position) is considered much closer to dexamphetamine in its effects...
So, to make the comparison you're asking, you'd be better off comparing specific SAR families of tryptamines to specific SAR families of phenethylamines. 'cause they're not always homogenous...
