A long time ago on totse someone posted a thing about about ripping a 20 in half diagnaly and going to the bank and having the bill replaced and do that twice so you get free $20. Does the whole serial number gotta be on there or how do it work?

i thought the rip has to be more than half for you to get a whole bill back

This. I'm pretty sure a bill is even legal tender ripped into 49 pieces, but I may not be remembering correctly. It might work if each half displayed the entire serial number.

I think it's something like 3/4ths must be present.

EDIT: Department of the Treasury says it's 1/2 present for replacement

in order to get a replacement bill 51% has to be in tact

Why would it require balls to rip the hundred? No matter what you'll at least be able to get it replaced once... You have both halves.

It'd be stupid to rip it right down the middle and go get it replaced, then go back or have someone come in with the other half trying to get it replaced. This is just a dumb idea.

I can't believe in all of New Hampshire there is only one fucking bank. That is just a dumb idea.

I think it's 50.01% for it to be replaced. They probably can't measure exactly, but I'm sure they'd know what's up if you did it twice.

rip off a third
Echange 2/3rds
Rip of a third of new bill
Exhange 2/3rds of the new bill
Deliver 1st and 2nd third, to a different bank

I dont know the policy on serial numbers, but avoiding them on the last step is escential.
(never tried it btw)

try ripping the bill in some kind of strange way and see if it works.

Thats just silly. You're saying that you hand in 2 x 1/3rds and still get a note back...
They will be able to tell that it is from two different notes.

Why not spend the ripped money in stores?

i don't see why this wouldn't work, genius. Although i'm sure there's probably something stopping it

i guess you just have to avoid mixing serials?

I don't know about American money, but Canadian money has two serial numbers, both identical but on opposite ends of the bill. The only parts of the bill required are the two serial numbers. So you could hypothetically turn in less than half a bill to be replaced, but I can't imagine how you could profit from it.

I really hope someone already said this....
All you have to do is use to separate banks.

I doubt you have to have an account at each bank you'd use.

I'd also use 100's to make it worth my while. I also think this would make it more believable.

I mite actually try this. There are tons of banks where i live. Im going to use a 100 dollar bill and rip it kinda oddly take 1 half to 1 bank and the other half to another ima call a bank first and find out there policy though

Keep in mind that the Secrete Service is who will investigate...

I would assume banks enter in the serial numbers of ripped bills before replacing.

I called and the bank said at least 50%

Other crimes could come about...

I found the larger half of a $20 bill today and took it into two different banks. The first one said that at least three corners need to be on the bill and the second asked if I had an account, when I said "no", they said "sorry".

Who's going to start looking for a bill without the majority of one corner?

When did we get to the point that this kind of...idiocy is actually debated. Jesus christ. There are fucktons of better and less risky scams to do then fucking around with legal tender, banks and serial numbers ffs.

You'll have to have most of the bill for this to work. I tried it, innocently, after my dog had eaten some of a bill. They wouldn't take it anywhere because the couldn't verify what I had was from one bill.

It needs to have both serials at least partially visible, and, because of this, the other section of your bill won't be returnable anywhere. This is useful only if you want new, crisp bills. You will NOT double your money.

You're an idiot. In order for a law to be broken you must do something that makes the note UNUSABLE. Drawing dicks on it just makes you gay and illiterate
