I have pretty severe arachnophobia, complete with panic attacks and dizziness and feeling generally uneasy as so much as a picture of a spider. I cannot stand them no matter how much I want to be able to peacefully coexist with them, but anyway onto the problem.

A huuuge spider just emerged from my cupboards and has gone walking around and disapeared somewhere in my room. Right now I can't imagine sleeping with it around me, but I can't find it anywhere. Whats the usual behaviour of a house spider, is it likely to wander around in the dark or just stay behind a cupboard. The last thing I want is it coming near my bed. Any advice? :(

I see you're in the UK, and since it's 2.53am you've probably gone to bed already.

anyway, it's likely to be wandering around, you might want to sleep in a different room tomorrow if you're that phobic of them. what spider was it? I've been discovering a few in my house recently, I think the type that I found breed in autumn.

Damn I would be feeling it crawling on me all night. I once found a big spider chilling on his web under my bed while I was cleaning up. He hauled ass when I went to smash him and has yet to be discovered.:hrmph:

An adult male will most likely wander, a female or subadult will probably stay put once it's found a nice spot to hide, and build a web.

I can only assume you wouldn't be able to identify its sex, so I can't really help you I'm afraid, but if you thoroughly clean your room there's a chance it'll leave due to lack of food, or you might be so lucky you nail it with the vacuum cleaner in the process.
