Man, you aussies have even more fucked up video game legislation than I thought. According to this article, a legal loophole will cause MMO's to become illegal in Australia! Hopefully this sorts itself out, but shit! That is just not right, not right at all. I seriously hope this issue gets sorted out properly instead of actually becoming a real problem!

Does anyone have more info on this? Seriously... I complain about American laws and stuff sometimes, but in reality other countries are getting much worse. You really do get more freedom than we realize here, let's just hope that isn't taken away anytime soon...

its a small loophole where technically unrated MMO's are illegal.. no one is going to ban anything. At most they will put little stickers on all the WoW boxes etc, with an appopriate rating.

Failtroll. It's like those idiots freaking the fuck out and saying that the Government wants to ban Vegemite. It doesn't and it won't be, there are technicalities that make you think so, but there are exceptions, and vegemite falls into the exception.

But our country is run by someone who thinks putting our country in more debt will make our economy stable, and censoring the internet will actually stop people seeing what they're not supposed to.
But hey, at least he's no war monger so it could be worse.
I dont like MMOs but i believe a human being can do what he wants as long as he doesn't hurt anyone so this is a blow.

this news doesn't bother me in the slightest. all the people that play world of warcraft already own a copy, and it's very easy to get it on the internet. big whoop, it won't even last a week. even if it did i wouldn't care, mmos are life suckers.

I don't know much about how the Australian government works, so I'm sure you guys will be okay (if you play Wow), but either way it sounds pretty fucked up. I know you don't have an equivalent of the "M" rating so overly bloody or suggestive games are either censored or banned in Australia, which is pretty retarded.

Too true, it's like when they tried to ban us from riding Kangaroo's to and from school/work.
It's our god damn birth right...

I hope you realize that many laws are not even enforced, particularly ridiculous ones such as those. Courts don't have a duty to enforce every law without regard for the circumstances for its execution. You guys are more stupid than I thought if you believe that MMOs are actually going to be banned because of this.

Uh, no, we don't have an equivalent to an R18+ rating when it comes to videogames, which is solely because at the time the regulations were drafted there were very very few MA15+ games in existence, let alone R18+ rated games.
Secondly, the OFLC are a statutory authority. I'm pretty sure that this is the same case in th USA with the MPAA.
Penultimately, America is way more conservative with it's media classifications.
Just take one look at IMDB - there are hundreds and hundreds of films (and other forms of media) with R18+ ratings in the USA, while these same titles are usually M - MA15+ for Australia. We're not the nanny state UK, and I hope we never become that far gone.
Finally, have you ever noticed all our 'big problems' are disproportioned to those in the USA and other countries with which our comparatively miniscule issues are compared? Yeah, it's called small ripples in a small pond, and seeing as Aussies generally tell it like it is and your culture is renowned for being full of shit, it all ends up out of focus by the time you hear about it.

Making MMO's illegal? Sounds like a step in the right direction.
Also, it doesn't always suck living in Australia. For example, they get this:

And Americans do not :(.
