How do these become disabled at retail stores? What do cashiers do to stop them from going off upon leaving the store?

How would a person disable them without the tool (if that's what they use) that a cashier has?

What are these tags present in? I would assume they would be in all computer games. So far I have never found on in a cardboard-cased game, only in the hard plastic ones.

peel it off, use a knife if u have to.

they demagnetize them at the cashier.

What if I do not have the time or secrecy (blindspot) to peel it off?

HOW are they demagnetized at the cashier though exactly? How strong of a magnet is used and do they just brush the item over it?

They use an electric degausser, which is very powerful and needs to be plugged into a wall socket. There is no portable version of this from what I know so your best bet is to remove the tags or cut them a lot.

they are not demagnetized at the cashier as i found out today, if you buy it, and it beeps they will signal you out, thats what happened to me today.

its just that they want to see you buy it.

Makes sense but unfortunately ruins any plans I had. Thanks for the info though.

So are you saying every time someone leaves the store with one of these the alarm goes off?

yes, it goes off everytime, but they will wave you off if they feel you bought something.

youre wrong. this is only at places like best buy where most of what you buy is expensive. what you are thinking of is on items like computers, tvs game consoles, etc and they will beep whenever you go out but theres someone standing buy the door to make sure you have a reciept, but the ones that are in like dvds, games, and shit they de magnetize the strip and it doesnt beep.

in fact im pretty sure you can take one of those little white strips, rub a strong magnet across it a few times, slap it on someones back, and they will beep everywhere. not positive though.

So if I were to walk out of a store with a computer it would most likely set off an alarm?

No the tags do not always set off the alarms, then can be deactivated (meaning they won't set off the alarm) at the register like a previous poster said.

If you know where in the package the tag is located you can place a neodymium magnet salvaged from an old hard drive over the tag and then go through the doors without the alarm going off. You must keep the magnet over the tag though, it's not a one-touch-it's-dead type thing.

If i bought an uber powerful neodymium magnet I could have the magnet a bit farther from the strip correct? assuming I'm not exactly sure of the strip's location

maybe. ive never heard the holding a magnet on it thing because when they deactivate the strips, they demegnetize them. im not sure how it would work. if you wanted to test it- take a strip off of something, hold the magnet on it, if it works then youre good and if you beep on your way out just let them search you and see that youre clean

all you need to do is to make a coil from a 30ga. wire for about 10" across. Then you'll need some kind of AC.. in order to obtain it, you may use a RC plane ESC. They change the DC into somewhat AC. Then a little transformer (even can be electronic transformer) to make the voltage about 200volts. Afterwards, connect a big battery (like the powerful 6V, 3000mah batts) to the ESC, connect the ESC to the transformer, and two ends of the transformer to the degausser coil that you made. Then you're done. whenever you connect the batt. to the system, it'll make a big magnetic field that will degauss the strip.

PS: the degausser coil is the same as the CRT TV degausser coil.
