I'd like to nominate "The Quiet Earth".

It's a New Zealand film about the last man on Earth. The part when he goes nuts is classic. Definitely better than 'I Am Legend' or any other garbage.

I think we are all forgetting the most important movie:

The Boondock Saints.
Pretty much the most badass movie in existance. Anyone who disagree will enjoy getting fucked in the ass by a DVD of said movie, while I force feed them my balls.

This is every average suburban male teenage cracker's top movie list, except for a few. I guess that kind of makes sense considering totse's main demographic, but where's the unique totse flavor?

How about some stuff like:
Videodrome -- sadomasochism, corporate control of consciousness, grotesque transhumanism, precursor to cyberpunk, the nature of reality in an media-saturated world
Naked -- bleak nihilistic worldview, iconoclastic protagonist obsessed with the apocalypse/conspiracy theories/raining on parades, sexual domination of women
Phenomena -- jailbait-age Jennifer Connelly communicating telepathically with insects in order to catch a jailbait-murdering serial killer
Brazil -- Orwellian dystopian satire, fuck bureaucracy, terrorist hysteria, surrealism, great while high
The Conversation -- paranoia, surveillance, issues of private vs. public space, etc.
Viridiana -- banned by the Vatican, fake nun rape, drunken bum orgy, cynical view of humanity... kind of a stretch for quintessential totse flick because I know most of you are probably bored by old black and white movies, but I can't leave it out
Happiness -- brutal satire of suburbia, features pedophilia, fantasies of killing everyone, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as an obscene phone caller, probably the most cruel comedy ever made
Sweet Movie -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072235/plotsummary
Festen (aka The Celebration) -- even the slightest description of this movie would ruin it completely, just trust me on this one, it's fucked and you'll all love it

All of these movies either contain themes that I've seen crop up on totse again and again over the years, or would just generally appeal to the kind of weird-ass who would even consider posting regularly on a place like totse. Instead of just the usual glorified violence, drug flicks, low-brow comedy, etc. that everyone in this generation enjoys.

I agree with PirateJoe on American Psycho, though.

Jacob's Ladder.

Being John Malkovich.

Definitely American Psycho, also am possibly thinking snakes on a plane, just a thought. Dark Knight, yep and equally The Fifth element. Finally add in a healthy dose of LoTR and Schindlers list.

EDIT: AMERICAN BEAUTY

There is nobody on totse like that.

Point Break

I haven't really watched a movie like this, but it is on my network T.V. right now, and the thought that came to mind was this is what BI totse posters must be like in real life.

We stand for something. All those people inching along on the freeway in their metal coffins, we show those people humanity still has a soul.

Fargo - possibly the best modern interpretation of a western. bad guys that are heartless, no real good guy, a bag full of money, a relentless sheriff, all set against a stunning back ground.

in my opinion this is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Agreed. I don't know anything about TOTSE, or at least I know very little, but I wouldn't be able to tell that list apart from anybody who likes films with a cult-following. This looks like some white suburban kid's bookshelf during his freshman year of college.

Congratulations, you're completely spot on. Yeah I am a white teenage kid entering my freshman year of college. So what?

This. And Lars Von Trier's The Idiots.

Also, anything by Michael Haneke.

I would suggest the following:

1) Carlito's Way - Gangster epic staring Al "Scarface" Pacino - Great flick.
2) Fixing the Shadow - Biker Movie starring Charlie Sheen as an undercover cop who gets very close to the line seperating him from the villans.
3) Underground - Black Comedy set in WWII Serbia about a chap who keeps a group of people hidden in a bunker, long after the war has ended.
4) Dambusters - One of the quintessential war movies of all time. Also, has a dog called "Nigger".
