I'll start. Here are some of my guitars.
Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Bought it with the headstock snapped off. Fixed it, painted it and put a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck Pickup.

1997 Fender Stratocaster (USA). This was my first nice guitar.

I think I'm selling this one today. But only because I just bought my new:

Caparison Dellinger II HGS, which is an amazing guitar.
The last one I've got to show right now is my Ernie Ball MusicMan John Petrucci signature.

I used to have many-a guitar. Now all I have is a Fender Telecaster Standard. It gets the job done, and was only 399. I have a 200 Watt Fender 4x12 cab and a Legion head. I also have a "Metal Zone" pedal that everyone seems to have, but I never use it, as the gain provided by my head is plenty.
I plan on getting either a Schecter C-7, Schecter C-1 Classic Neck-Through, or making my own guitar.

I also have a pre-fender jackson rhoads w/emg 81-85 combo also I have an ibanez xiphos which plays incredible although I will probaly switch out the p/us for emgs. The D-Activators are OKAY but they really dont stand up to the emgs in the jackson IMO.
The RR is tuned to B standard and the Xiphos is going to C# standard with the ability to fine tune the C# down to B.
Both are locking trems so tuning setting up can take some time when adjusting from E to B or whatnot.
The amp I have a Laney LV200 with a boss chromatic tuner, 7 band eq, and elctro-harmonix metal muff with top boost in front.
Great gear you guys have btw.
^ Nice amps! You use one for leads and one for rhythm?
No.
The Marshall is used for Rock/Classic Rock. The 2205 gets a bad rap alot of the time because it has a booster circuit in it that does have some chips, but it's pretty much a built in tube screamer. The amp with my RR1 going into it sounds alot like James Hetfield's tone on Kill 'em All, add a overdrive pedal in front of it and it's extremely close to Micheal Schenker
The Mark IV is used mostly for metal, but is so versatile you can do anything with it. If I could pick only one amp to be able to play through for the rest of my life, it would be this Mark IV
I'm working a deal to get a Soldano SLO100, AND a Splawn Promod, for a amazing price. I just need to find the cash

I have a John Mayer edition Strat, a little Squier (my first guitar), a beaten up Ibanez acoustic six string, Taylor 12 sting with one peg missing, Squier Jazz bass.
30 W Fender amp, 30W Fender rumbler.
Cheap Ludwig beginner's drum kit, cheap Solar cymbals.
Flute, acoustic piano, a few harmonicas.

I have no actual pictures, so I'll post generics of what I play. I don't actually own any of this stuff, it all belongs to my Dad and he doesn't play nearly as often as I do.
http://www.imuso.co.uk/images/Legacy/Product/EG00846.jpg
This is my primary guitar, I believe it's an Aria PE-Elite, less than 5 years old. Les Paul-shaped, obviously, but it's a fair deal lighter than Gibsons, I think it's because they made the body a bit slimmer. It's pretty damn cheap as far as guitars go, but I love the thing to death, it's got a really light action and is just stupid easy to play. The stock pickups sounded pretty good, but a few months ago we pulled those out and threw in some Zakk Wylde EMG actives, and it just screams now, perfect for the hard rock sort of stuff that I like. I taught myself to play on this thing, and when I finally decide to buy my own guitar, it's definitely going to 2 humbucker Gibson-style setup, I just feel so comfortable playing it.
No pictures of the amp, because I really have no idea what it is. It's a Hiwatt combo amp, but it's made in China, not a real British one. It's big, heavy, and the volume can't be turned past 25% without destroying various fragile objects around the house.
http://www.fernandesguitars.com/images/stories/products/guitars/retrorocket/X/RETR-X-3TS.jpg
The other guitar is a Fernandes Retrorocket X, of that color. This one is almost exclusively Dad's guitar, I only play it when I occasionally feel like giving myself a headache. It's a really nice instrument for the price, very well-built. Sounded pretty good, then we put some passive EMGs in it. Sounds alright, but honestly kind of subdued from what it used to be. I personally dislike Strats, the scale length is different and uncomfortable, and the arrangement of the pickups means that I can't comfortably rest my palm on the bridge without the pick hitting the pickups. I don't really care for the action either, the whole thing is just physically more difficult and uncomfortable for me to play.

I've been working on building a few guitars, and I'd love to repair them for a living. How do you go about getting a job doing this? Just go to a store and ask if they need repair help? Or would it be better to be certified in some way?

Getting a certification through a school is definitely a much faster way to go. Luthier's International and Atlanta Guitar Works, just about guarantee a job with Gibson/PRS/Warrior/Washburn/Dean/Jackson/Fender. If your on the Western side of the US, There is one guy that you need to go to. Neal Moser, he doesn't run a school, it's a seminar so there is no certification, but the guy is truly the best.
If you don't want to go that route. Get some business cards made up and give them to musicians, most you'll never hear from, but some will call.
With shops, don't go in trying to get hired as a tech, go in looking to be a normal employee, and after your hired make it known that you can do repairs. If you go in trying to get hired for repairs, you'll end up working as a contractor, which means that technically your self employed, so no hourly pay, just what you make in repairs.

Thanks man, its fully custom built as far as I can tell - was actually hoping someone could maybe give me a bit of background on it. I bought it from ebay (guitar shop went into liquidation and the administrators sold off everything cheap). I spotted this and bid a best offer and 6 days later...
Actually it has a marginally small body for the price but the sound is huge. The neck is beautiful and the action is to die for. Definitely worth something. The inlays are all abalone. My proudest possession!

Yeah you need to hang that one on the wall forsure. Hows the JEM? I was deciding between the white one and mirror one and went with the mirror.
The jem is the finest, and I mean finest, guitar I have ever had the pleasure to play on. Assuming the mirrored one still uses the same pickups I have a few tips for you:
The selector all the way down is position 1 and all the way up (closest to the strings) is position 5 for the purpose of this explanation.
Position 1- this provides a really clean cut treble-y sound which is great for rock pop stuff
Position 2- this is a bit more throaty but I don't use it too often so can't give you a full run down.
Position 3- This is one of the most remarkable positions of the guitar. The pickups sound like heaven here. Switch your amp over to clean and do some fingerpicking on this position - close your eyes and listen to heaven. With the tone up at 10 it sounds very twangy, country-esque but sweet. Tone at 1 gives a very watered down spongey feel but still very sweet.
Position 4- Similar to position 3 but with a bit more beef to it. Imagine 3 with more bass.
Position 5- This selection is EXTREMELY beefy, I use this on clean and dirty sounds to give a good "oomph". Listen to "for the love of god" pretty much this position
The action and bridge are very very well set up from factory but mine came custom set up for me. The bridge is extremely easy to use and very precise. The weight isn't an issue with this guitar and it is fantastically light even after a few hour gigs. The neck is amazing and will make you play dramatically better, with no effort whatsoever required to make sweet music from it.
Oh and a side note - the monkey grip is great for carrying it on / off stage rather than putting your grubby hands over the neck. Mine came in a beautiful hard case, red velvet lined and the toolkit came very well packaged.
Look after it man, it is an absolute dream of an instrument

They tend to squeal like little piggies especially if the tone is up at 10 and on the bridge pickup. If you set them up right with your gear you can get an absolutely lovely "growl" to them. Bareknuckle pickups have the same snarl if you're ever thinking of replacing.

My dad's company reps for EMG as well as Schecter, and since they switched over to a solderless installation recently he should be able to find an older 81/84 set for cheap. Most of Schecter's high end models come with EMGs anyway, and I personally like the way they sound.

The Ibanez was just the cheap starter pack bass, and I keep it for mostly sentimental reasons, the ESP is definitely my main gun, I love that thing, even if it is fucking heavy. The Behringer is the only real amp I have. A lot of people have problems with them, but I'm pretty satisfied with it, so.
Also recently bought an Ibanez "artcore" four string, but I don't have a picture of it. It's a really nice base, but it's not really my style, and I'm not a huge fan of the short scale. Might trade it for something else, maybe a Schecter, but they're hugely expensive in Japan. Maybe a fender, I've seen some nice ones out here.

I think it's just a big pick :p
I use Jazz III's. It's easier to pull pinch-harmonics with those than a larger pick. It's almost like cheating
Both my guitarists use Jazz III's for that reason. We call them silly picks though because this dumbass drummer who thinks he knows everything about everything said that. So we just make fun of him

Once at a show someone asked the other guitarist in my band for a pick. He handed him a Jazz III and the guy just looked confused as fuck. It was hilarious.

Spectors and Fender Jazz Basses are quite nice and fairly inexpensive (300-500) I also like Schecter basses but they're pretty damn pricey.

I'll try and get some decent pics up of my guitar/basses and amp tomorrow or the day after.
I'm currently putting some money aside to pick up an SX p-bass, since they're extremely good for their price, then putting in some good parts and what not.

I can find a very nice Spector, used, for about 500. A used Schecter bass around here would be about the same, but the quality wouldn't be the same. For a Schecter Studio you'd pay more.

The Ernie Ball is a John Petrucci model. It's from the first or second year of production, so it has his first custom pickups (which I think are the best sounding). I added 3 way coil switches to each pickup on that guitar.
The black one is a Caparison Dellinger II HGS (Heavy Gauge Strings) which is designed for, you guessed it, heaver strings. I typically use it for drop tunings, but I like to put some 10-46s on it and play it in standard sometimes.

They're not that great. You get the same tone out of anything made of mahogany with EMGs, they're heavy (physically, not tonally) and they're overpriced because Schecter likes giving reach-arounds to Jeff Loomis and "Synister Gates". And Schecter locking tuners are a joke. I've had both C-1 and C-8 Hellraisers and sold them both.

I'll have to check. So you're suggesting no matter what wood a guitar is made of, slapping EMG's on it will give it the same sound? In that case, I'm off to build a guitar out of pine lumber.

On another forum I'm on, a member built guitars made of pine, plywood,MDF, mahogany. All the guitars used the neck off his San Dimas Charvel, and where made to the same specs as the Charvel (aside from wood, the Charvel was made of Alder). He then recorded clips (clean, low-gain, high-gain) using the same rig (even down to the same pick).
After posting the clips a poll was ran without telling people what clip was what guitar. Guess what results the poll showed, damn near a perfect 5 way tie.
From my experience the 18volt mode dose make a real improvement

My normal go to set is Dimarzio Super2 (B)/PAF (N). But if I want something really hot Dimarzio X2N (B)/ Super2 (N)

Just got the Blackstar HT Club 40 today, I run it through the Marshall 4x10 cab. Also pictured are the Schecter Omen 6 with EMG 81X/85X and the Epiphone Goth Explorer with EMG 81/81.

And the point of having the exact same pickup in both the neck and bridge positions is...?
That said, I do like Blackstar cabs. Amps/combos, not so much. Also, see above post about EMG pickups.

Not pictured is an Aria Les Paul with EMG 81/85. I was kind of curious as to what two 81s would sound like, and what kind of sound I could get with blending the two. My dad's company reps for EMG and Blackstar, so it doesn't cost very much to get them. I think Kirk Hammett uses an EMG 81/81 combo in some of his instruments.
Besides, I wasn't about to replace just one of the two pickups.

Try the 81 in the neck and the 85 in the bridge; D It's the opposite of how most put them, but IMO it's the better way

How so?
I should have been thinking about it, I just changed the strings and it takes literally 5 minutes to swap pickups with the strings off.

The 85 is a "thicker" sounding pickup with more lows and low mids, and the 81 has more high mids which the neck position lacks. I think this setup makes up better for each positions low points, But that's just my opinion.
Worst case it'll tell you if you like the 81 in the neck

I'm personally a huge fan of the worm gear.
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/gear-worm.jpg
There are other extremely useful gears, such as the ratchet...
http://smithbowen.net/linfame/stopme/RATCHET.jpg
And who can forget the oh-so-amazing planetary gear?

The beveled gear is also extremely useful.

And of course, the standard traditional plain gear.

Huge fan of 70's-80's BC Rich's
I've had a bunch of old Mockingbirds, a couple Warlocks, a Eagle bass, and at one time 3 STIII's and 4 Gunlinger's
IMO the old USA's are by far the best built guitars ever made. The fact that the only power tools that touched them was the router used for the pickup and control cavities means that they all are unique, and I love that.
