View Full Version : Fedor/Rogers Tonight. Who Takes It?

9PM Live ET, Delayed PT on CBS.
So, here we go another Fedor fight. How do you all see this one playing out? I think this is a dangerous fight for Fedor. Rogers is young, up and coming, a very powerful striker with decent handspeed for his size, aggressive, he's confident and will have a good size advantage over Fedor. If he wins it's the biggest upset in MMA history and because of Fedor's smaller status outside MMA enthusiasts this could be a devastating loss for him, if he loses he simply loses to Fedor, the best.
Personally I think Fedor needs to get in fast, clinch, and take this one to the ground. I can't see it going well for Fedor if he chooses to stand with Rogers. He has a lot of power (10-0, all knockouts in the first and second round) and I can see him getting at least one bomb in on Fedor if it stays standing too long and that may well be all he needs. Rogers comes out looking for the knockout because he knows he has huge power.
I'm nervous. I want to see Fedor win in impressive fashion, but I am a big fan of Rogers and the UFC will no doubt want to pick him up if he can cream Fedor.

Rogers is garbage.
I predict a victorious Fedor in less than a minute.
EDIT: And what is up with people saying Rogers is a better striker than Fedor? Fedor is FAR better than Rogers in every single aspect of fighting, including striking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n6Z_2CgcuY#t=5m00s).

Rogers clinch game is sloppy and I feel that he could easily get taken down and dominated on the ground by Fedor.
However I also have a strong hunch that if Fedor comes in with the wrong gameplan he has a good chance of getting knocked out.

Fedor Emelianenko is the best fighter in any venue ever, period. This guy would've kicked Mike Tyson's ass in his prime. I was pretty disappointed with Brett Rodgers during the post fight interview. His bouncing around and asshole-ish attitude after getting his ass handed to him only made him look like a punk and a sore loser. He epitomizes what is wrong with many Americans, can’t accept getting beat fair and square. Fedor was humble and very low key after winning the fight, the sign of a real champion.

Yeah, Fedor dominated that shit using skill and skill alone. It was a pretty inspirational fight.
I predict Rogers career is essentially over. He may have been able to salvage it if he had been respectful in his loss. But by acting like a little bitch afterwards he didn't gain any fans. Might as well go back to changing tires at Sam's Club.

Thus proving that humans are better fighters. They should give Fedor an actual opponent that can fight.
When is he going to UFC? I know they won't sign him because it will expose how useless Lesnar is.

I was seriously impressed by Rogers I have to say. He has serious power, good strength and size, and he isn't as useless on the ground as we figured he would be. He's still green though. He has a massive power, size and reach advantage and still got his ass handed to him.
Could've been classy in the interview though.
Fedor looked great, that man is a beast.

Fedor is so damn unshakable, he doesn't get nervous or scared or lose his cool or get aggro and do stupid shit. It really showed in this match.
I think Roger seemed to show fedor far too much respect, and the fact that he was letting fedor chase him around the ring while they were both standing says a lot about the guy, considering his stand up is where he shines.

Looked to me like Fedor was pretty uncomfortable fighting in the cage. When he was pushed up against the cage he didn't really do much to get out of it, but most of his fights are in the ring, no?
Still a great KO and a great win. Fedor is straight-up murder in the form of a man.

For his first fight in a cage, he didn't perform too badly. I suspect against a cage hugger like Couture in his prime he might not have fared too well though.

I don't think so.
Rogers is a huge man. Probably had a 45lb weight advantage and is very strong. It's not hard for him to outmuscle Fedor and keep him pressed against the cage or push him to the cage. Even then, Fedor had a few tricks:

Rogers is, for lack of a better descriptor, a large brutish striker. Couture is a wrestler(DIVI runner up if I'm not mistaken) who made a career of holding larger, stronger opponents against the cage.

...and Nog was a submission machine on the floor, Mirko was a god-like striker, yadda yadda :p. I cannot see Couture beating Fedor in any aspect of the game.

I'm not saying Fedor wouldn't be able to overcome it and beat Couture, just that Couture would give him far more trouble against the cage than Rogers did had they fought back when Couture was a somebody.

I can't see it to be honest. Fedor's technique is too much. Not to put Couure down because he's a great wrestler, but I can't see him holding Fedor there.

Well, you can explain to me what exactly Couture has -at probably 10lbs less too- skill wise that would nullify Fedor's impressive Sambo/Judo trips and throws so he could be pressed against the cage and worked on. Not to mention Fedor's strength.
Surely the last place Couture wants to be is in a clinch situation with Fedor?

I never claimed anything of the sort :rolleyes:. I said I can't see Randy holding him there and working on him. He could get him there sure, but I don't think it'd be for very long at all. Surely he'd be better off working on his feet with straight boxing and head movement, taking advantage of fedor's looping style than trying to wrestle and grapple Fedor?
