View Full Version : Stop rhyming "Change" with "Rearrange"

I'm tired of hearing poorly written lyrics whose writers can't think of anything better to rhyme "change" with than "rearrange." I don't know how many songs I have heard where the lyrics go something like "(person's name or pronoun like 'Everyone')'s changing (sometimes extra word here like 'Always') rearranging!" There are other things to rhyme that word with ya know, why'd you have to take the easy one? You know, Eminem (not that I'm saying he's a good rapper, but he's a damn fine rhymer) was able to rhyme 3 words in the same sentence with "sweaty" one of which was spaghetti! So don't tell me you can't find anything else to rhyme "change" with. In fact, here's a short list of words and phrases that you could rhyme it with:

Grange
Range
Mange
Strange
Exchange
Derange
Estrange
Interchange
Stock Exchange
Rifle Range
Foreign Exchange

And here's a lost of artists and their songs that use this horrible rhyming combination:

God Lives Under Water - Rearrange
Roger Sanchez - You Can't Change Me
Sarah Connor - Change
Jem And The Holograms - We Can Change It
Blackhawk - I Will
Puressence - Free Fall
Graham Nash Chicago - We Can Change The World
Bunch Brady - Time to Change
Snoop Dog - Change Gone Come
Queensryche - Re-Arrange You
John Lodge - Who Could Change
...

There are a lot more, maybe I'll add some later today.

Also:
Korn - It's On

Another rhyme that always bothers me isn't even a rhyme: it's just when people use the word "today" at the end of a line to fill in extra syllables. The classic example of this from my own life would be the lame-ass song "come along with Jesus":

lyrics:
Come along, come along, come along with Jesus,
Come along, come along, come along today.

As far as I can remember, those are the only words, which just makes it worse. And it's even worse it you hear it sung.

I also thought I would mention DMX's "Party up," in which he rhymes "hurts" with "church":

"Thats why you layin on your back, lookin at the roof of the church
Preacher tellin the truth and it hurts"

Not an exact rhyme, but creative, I suppose.

Not sure why this thread's been reborn with little to no new content, but here's a similar one: Girl and world. Mostly in country songs. Probably THE most overused rhyme is music today.

Another one. Edge of Sanity - Crimson

Actually a good song though, no point listening to Death Metal for the lyrics.

Everyone you've quoted using this in their songs are all going to read your thread.

Yes, they will. They will also post about how sorry they are that you don't like their lyrics.

Rap is rhymes with crap

At least in classical, if the person making the music is a complete dumbass, the instrumentation covers that up.

Change should be only rhymed with Spange

This, and the rhyme should be reserved for the homeless, alcoholics, the unemployable, and career spangers.

Couldn't change it couldn't rearrange it so there it was
Anyway the two kept on
With the phone calls notes and so on and so on
And after the bullshit and whatten
That day came the two started fuckin'
All the time you know kids habit's
Every single day fuckin' like rabbits
Sneakin out the car when he was 15
Climbin' in the window and fuckin' all night see
Fuckin' during lunch in the junior high bathrooms
Drinking champagne and trippin' on mushrooms
His dick was metal her pussy was a magnet
9th grade came "I'm pregnant"
