Removal of the Suggestions forum

I've decided to remove the Suggestions forum. It serves no practical purpose anymore and has deteriorated in to a soap box for self-described activists on the site. The vast majority of the threads in there (including ones that haven't been moved or deleted) belong in PEOO.

But don't take my word for it.

Suggestions was originally created because we needed suggestions when switching from &t to zoklet. Now since we've got just about everything that &t had (and more) there's no reason for the forum.

Now it's just full of griping, silly suggestions, and complaining about how shitty things are. No real suggestions get posted there anymore. If someone DOES want to make a real suggestion, it usually gets posted in the forum that most closely relates to it or a mod will post it in M&A.

Not only that, but it seems to make users feel that it's their RIGHT to have a say in what goes on on the site. Yes they should get to voice their opinions and be able to make suggestions, but the absence of the forum is not impeding that. The forum's presence just makes people feel as though the site is theirs to edit and control as long as enough people agree with them.

As was stated, users are more than welcome to voice their opinions and to offer up suggestions. If you have a genuine suggestion, feel free to e-mail or PM Zok, Fish, MandatorySuicide, or myself.

Suggestions was originally necessary because GS (The Pile Of Shit, at the time) was getting flooded with threads about how we needed to add various forums and features. This was when people were still coming from &t and we had a total of 10 forums.

It's really not needed now - it's just a clone of PEOO now. Any real suggestions will work their way into M&A or an admin's inbox.

Hate to shatter your reality, but there was more "moderation" taking place there than in any other forum on the site. You couldn't see it, but there was a WALL of deleted or moved threads that didn't fit there.

to the casual observer who never paid much attention to the suggestions forum, it quite honestly looks like you guys deleted it just so you wouldn't have to deal with people bothering you about the inadequacies of the site. you're hoping now they have nowhere to go (you can easily ignore PMs, as you will) to "suggest" they will stop for the most part. what you should've had the balls to do was to just come out and say that right away. whocares123, I was actually the one that suggested removing the suggestion forum. It wasn't serving the purpose and had become a useless eyesore. Why would zoklet hold on to something that's completely unnecessary and has no sense of community?

Suggestions existed for tech-based ideas and that purpose had been lost. A lot of you are in college and whatnot, so you see bulletin boards up all over the place. If people fill it with junk, then those responsible for the board will take it down and replace it.

As it was explained to me, the new forum isn't there for advice on how to run the forums; it's there for ideas and features, with a focus on software and such, that could benefit zoklet.

Well, there's the less-vague name, -SpectraL's presence, and the fact that either he, an admin or a global mod must approve threads before they're open for comment. Not to mention forum bans. Not many were given out in Suggestions, and hopefully it'll stay that way in the new forum. I guess we'll find out.
