View Full Version : Digitized Camoflauge
Why do they use digitized camoflauge now? Is is more effective than the previous variants? If so, how?

No, they changed it because they thought it looked more 1337 that way.

It's harder to focus on.
ARPAT fucking sucks, though.

I can only see it as a massive recruiting tactic. Internet age = Internet style.
"You, too, can look like Solid Snake!" Fuck me.

It looks nicer, longer.
The digitized pattern helps break up any stains on the camo, it makes them WAY less noticeable, Thus extending the amount of time they can be considered acceptable in between washings.
Plus, i'd imagine it's probably easier to manufacture too, although i'm not sure on that.

Many of the generals, officers and soldiers don't like it. They say it isn't as effective in most situations. It could be changed but the cost of changing again would be prohibitive, since the government is bankrupt.

ACUPAT basically only works in the mountains of Afghanistan. It looks cool but its not effective. The layout of the pockets and such is better then the BDU though.
I hear their may be a switch to mulitcam
EDIT: I forgot to mention....Its a numbers game.....some one got some extra money in their pocket so we use the ACUPAT and the IBA

Marine Pattern is awesome, works really well, in my opinion- http://afidie.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/800px-marines_marpat.jpg
The Army pattern looks like it would only work rubble covered snow- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8c/ACU_Soldier2.jpg

Yeah. The Marines have it good with the camouflage.
In my opinion the ARPAT was designed to work almost exclusively with the urban environments and areas of Iraq/Afghanistan.
It is great night camouflage though :)

What I want to know is what's up with the new Navy working uniform.

The only thing I can think of it camouflaging you with is the ocean and when you fall in the ocean don't you want to be seen?

^If you're in the Navy you don't just 'fall into the ocean', Nancy.
It's for sky-diving; computer generated skies will give the advantage to the winners of the great space race, comrads!

^^It's also harder to notice stains and accumulated filth. Same for the new USAF pattern.

Just found this:
"Why would a sailor on a ship need to hide himself from view. Mainly because ships are often in port, and sometimes there are hostile people in that port area. The color pattern of the NWU (navy blue, deck gray, haze gray and black) is designed to make it more difficult for some hostile local ashore to get a good shot at a sailor on the deck of a navy ship."
Makes sense

The digitized pattern helps break up infrared signals and defeat older Soviet Era generation 1 night vision. Making the wearing harder to see through the night vision device.
We had pretty much the same thing in Desert Storm with the "Desert Night" camo over suits.
My favorite pattern has always been Flecktarn though:

I saw this for the first time in the local army navy store...i pointed it out to my gf (born in Germany) because of the German flag...but upon closer inspection I was like damn....this shit is cool.

Multicam is amazing.
Congress is JUST NOW realizing that every branch having its own distinct uniform is a retarded waste of money.
Take ABUs for isntance. How many companies print them? You'll find green ones, grey ones, and desert ones in the BX. Its all kinds of fucked up.
BDUs worked fine when every branch had them, and they worked great. You had summer and winter weights instead of one hot swampass-inducing sweat factory, and we don't need 6+ places to put pens.
Multicam ftw.
E: On second thought, how about everyone in the AF just go to flight suits. Everyone. Even with those cool flight jackets they get to wear. It'll be one great big pajama party.

Shits been around since the SS in WWII. They were reversible with autumn and fall on one side, then spring and summer on the other.
