If you worry about what people think, you are too candy-ass for any sort of piercing, IMHO.

That said, a pierced tongue is usually a sign that the piercee sucks cock--not that there's anything wrong with that.

It seems to me like a tongue piercing would get in the way of licking. But why would you care what people think, what other people think doesn't matter when it comes to modding your body, what you think matters. You are the one who has to pay for it, has to deal with the discomfort of the piercing healing and has to live with it. I say go for it, it's not like you can't take the piercing out.

I had mine pierced for 3 years, and then had to take it out because I ripped my tongue when I was fucked up, and then I had it for 4 more years after I got it pierced the second time until I had to take it out for jail, anyway in 7 years of having my tongue pierced I never had one person make a gay jokes, and girls loved it.

My girlfriend kind of wants me to get mine pierced.. because she thinks it would be attractive on me, and the idea of a vibrating tongue ring intrigues her. It's not like I haven't mulled the idea over before.. I came very close to getting it done at the shop once, only to get there and see that it was closed because of a family emergency.. I took it as a sign. But I still may relapse and go for it. Ideally.. and I mean no offense, I have noticed alot of rough.. douche-bag.. similar to meth-head types with tongue rings.. I'm no one to judge anyone, but I have seen few respectable people with them. I would be trying to pull a vote for the minority if I got mine pierced.. Time will tell. I see nothing wrong with it, and I'm sure no girl would mind..

I've noticed this a lot too, I've tried to convince my friends at work(I work in a die cast shop, most people there are very conservative, I guess I am too though) that the grungie tweaker looking guys aren't the only ones with tongue rings, but I even think I'm a rare exception sometimes.

after two weeks - you can change the barbell and you can eat the food you normally eat instead of soup or anything liquid.

after a month - the pain is more or less gone.

after three months - you can take out for an extended period of time without the hole closing up in like a day

after six months - you can take it out for a week at max without it closing up.

Personal experience -
Pain (1-10) upon piercing , nothing.
I was unable to eat for 36 hours anything solid. I evaded smoking. Pain - 5.
I ate in restaurant very chewy food after that. Took some patience and time, but its was doable. I started smoking both tobacco and weed. Pain after second day - 5.
Third day I started eating more or less normally. Slowly, taking time and not forcing it. Continued smoking. Pain - 2.
That pain lasted for about 2 weeks. It wasn't pain really, but simple annoyance. At times I wanted to take it out but I stuck to it.
After a month that I took some time to experiment with different barrel sizes. 16mm works best for me.
Extremely small barrels can bring some of that pain back (Or even bigger if you bite/force it around in your mouth) but it gets gone after a day. Problem with barrel that is too big is simple pressure around the mouth and with small ones pressure on the tongue.

After month and a half I started getting it out while brushing teeth and such. Never longer than 10 minutes. I've witnessed hole closing up after 20 minutes on a girl who had it for a year and some months, so not risking it.

My swelling got off in about 3 days, but I was impaired for a week.
Takes some time to get used to s's and such.
Just follow the instructions you get in the salon and have some water on you all the time.
It shouldn't be too noticeable.
But if you have a wide smile and/or talk a lot it will be visible no matter what you do.
(If people care enough to look at you while you do so)

My tongue hardly swelled either time I had mine pierced, I guess it depends on the person though. The only part of the piercing that hurt was when the piercer was screwing the ball on, it was a little uncomfortable but it didn't hurt bad.

That was probably due to inexperienced piercer or just a sloppy one.
I never felt a thing. Mine was done by the daughter of the owner and she had such a light touch to it only "uncomfortable" part (if you can call it that) for me was clamping the tongue and squeezing it with rubber band.

Don't worry if theres a indent on the top of your tongue where the top ball is located, its normal until you get a smaller barbell.

You'll know what im talking about when you get it.

Buy Painkillers. they help. Alot. you get two tablets of tylenol for 50 cents in your local corner store.

I recently started using a metal ball and an indent appeared a few days later. it goes away when you wear soft plastic. Metal is harsh to have but its metallic sheen is cooler then colored barbells. =/

Personally I'm not one for regular tongue piercings, especially on guys. Always seemed for the tweaker type almost too, haha. I personally got my web pierced as it was something you very rarely see and few would ever notice.

I've always had this notion that a pierced tongue was for one thing, and that is for the assist when sucking on a dick. Hell, one of my old teachers told me that, and after getting my dick sucked by a girl with one, I will always believe it.

I found plastic too soft, so metal all the way.
Balls on both ends, tho rarely use some buttons.

I chose tongue cause its personal.
I HATE how people show off piercings or don't know the limits.
Like dozen UVs all on belly/ears/cheeks.
