Okay so I'm thinking about getting a new virus scanner today. I got Norton right now, but I think it's flawed. Seems like It only takes 2 minutes to up date, and scam my system when before it would take awhile. I also can't update anygames or anything. Tried to put on Linux Ubuntu, but it just won't work. It gets 75% installed when I'm trying to run it along side of windows, then an error comes up and says "cd being used by another program when it's not. So I tried to install it from boot menu, but it just freezes. I just tried it again from windows, but it just won't install; time remaining goes up and up and up to like 500 hours. Anyways I gave up on that. So, could there be a virus on my system that stops all updates? And if I do go get a new virus scanner, do I have to delete Norton first? Or can leave it on while I install the new. I want to leave it on just incase it Norton is working and if I can't install the new anti virus I still want Norton just in case. Any help will do guys, I'm starting to hate this laptop FUCK

Google Avast Antivirus. Download the free version (home, not pro).

Best virus scanner IMO. You should be able to uninstall Norton with add and remove programs in the control panel.

Uninstall Norton, Don't Install AntiVirus 2009.

Try Nod32 or Avira or Avast/AVG.

Antivirus 2009 is a known malicious software.

Avast, AVG and Antivir all have free versions. A lot of people swear by AVG Free.

I like AVG Free or Nod32 (but Nod32 is pay-for).

Agreed. I've used AVG for years, and I've never had much of a problem with viruses. I've heard good things about Nod32, but I've had the money to pay for it. Avast is also a pretty good free alternative. The only AV software I've ever paid for was Kaspersky. Definately worth the money.

To uninstall norton you need to go to their website and download their uninstall tool. One of my friends had trouble uninstalling it and I looked up and down on how to uninstall it. Good thing I checked their site :D

If you want to pay for something use nod32

If you want a free one use AVG or avira.

I personally pay for nod32 but avira rates higher than AVG (and is less resource hungry)

Go with the free antivirus because antivirus software is no longer an effective way to protect your computer.
