View Full Version : Good (reliable) pairs of pants?

I keep on stupidly buying "fashionable" pants and they fall apart within a year (if I'm lucky). I'm going down to the Glendale and Burbank area and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for "work pants" so to speak.
I want them to be:
1. Hard to rip or tear.
2. Have a good button and zipper (I don't want to sew on a button 30 fucking times )
3. Relatively inexpensive. I'm not richy fucking rich and I'm not going to spend 80 bucks on a pair of goddamn jeans.
4. Comfortable too. I don't want some hipster-queer skinny jeans.
So if you could just recommend brands that share these qualities and stores that you got/can get them in.
Oh, I don't really care about the "fashion" of these pants. Just the reliability and comfort.
Thank you guys :)

I would tell you to get levi's they have a wonderful fit and are really hard to fuck up, I'm always running around in them and I've never had a button break off on them.
But if you're slightly humanistic, the fact that levis are made in sweatshops might dissuade you... it makes it hard for me to get them...
But hey if not, I would totally recommend them.
they are about 40$ regular pricing, you could use sales to get em cheaper.
otherwise get the Dillon pants at Pac sun... they aren't the best fit and the button will break if the waist is too small... but they are sweat free.

Levi's will last forever though. I have a few pairs I use for work that just won't die after years and years of abuse.

The shitty thing about jeans is that as soon as they get comfy, they're threadbare in places.
Go to your walmart. Try some on. There really isn't a point to going upscale for something as uncomplicated as a pair of jeans. Dickies or Carharrt make good working jeans. Heavier weight of cloth, reinforced stitching.

I'd second (or third, wherever we are now) Carhartt, everything I own made by them is great quality, but I don't have any of their jeans and couldn't tell you a price.

I wear levis. Best looking and most reliable. Everything else that is considered fashionable at a high price is shit.

Whatever you do, do NOT get Wranglers. I'm not even fat, and the crotch in mine wore out after a few weeks. There's also an area on the left leg of the ones I'm wearing right now that's fraying for no apparent reason.
I was pretty satisfied with Arizona jeans. You could try those.

The closeouts are great!
I wouldn't wear most of those in public though (LAPD/everyone in LA doesn't like anyone who dresses in combat uniforms :)) but some great (and cheap!) hiking/workout clothing there!

Levi's are the motherfucking king.
You won't be disappointed.
Wranglers and dickies and all that hooo haaaa are just bullshit.
I bought a pair of wranglers at walmart fo' seventeen bucks and that piece of shit is already faded after a few weeks and there's something wrong with the crotch/zipper, I feel a breeze on my junk while walking.

I personally enjoy wearing a pair of Oleg Cassini jeans. I got them at Marshall's, and I'm not sure if anyone else carries them, but they are ridiculously comfortable, fit really nicely and aren't falling apart any time soon. I highly recommend them, but I have no idea how much they are because I got them on sale for around $30.

Fuck silver jeans, go levi's.
They'll make your dick look cute.
Work pants? What do you do for work?
I'll just recommend pants by Columbia; their active/performance line. They work great and they won't hold the cold in the winter like a pair of jeans will.
Other than that, for work pants, I like bluenotes and dickies.

Propper makes good stuff.
I'm not sure if they are the original manufacturer of actual military issue BDUs/ACUs, but they are just as good and just as durable.

not comfortable, but i have two pairs of dickies carpenter jeans, one pair is black and the other pair is blue. the blue ones are soft, and the black ones can stand up on their own. and they are only like $17. I got some carhartt jeans today that cost $32 and aren't as tough as the black dickies.

EMT/Cop/Firefighter uniform trouser pants are usually pretty good. Very comfy(especially without underwear :p) You can get Nomex ones that are fire resistant and even more durable, bit they're a little more expensive. Sometimes you can find good deals on them at surplus places.
As far as jeans, I'd not recommend Aeropostale or Wrangler. Aero is comfy, but won't last. Wranglers are durable, but not comfy. The doublefront canvas Carharts aren't too bad in terms of comfort, and are probably the most durable pants around. Great work pants.
Levi's are pretty good. I like the 527's. I won't pay more than $30 for a pair though. I can make a pair last me through 150+ days of wearing. Leather pants might be worth checking out :p.

These will last you forever. It's all I fucking wear. You're stupid if you don't wear em. I buy em biggish so I can fit long underwear underneath them in the wintertime. On second thought if you don't work manual labor then don't buy em. I'm fucking sick of seeing hipsters in their perfectly clean carhartts acting like they've actually worked a day in there life with their hands. These pants go best with a flannel shirt, calloused hands, and a hatred for hipsters.
