First question: is there a name for mecha style anime?

Next can anyone recommend a nice one that is kind of in depth (but a shallow one will do for now.)

I'v seen:
Evangelion (loved it, but not the end. Too much introspection, but great plot.)
Eureka 7 (probably one of my favorite)
TTGL (of course)
Code Geass (it was a moment of weakness)

Full Metal Panic (first series and Second Raid)
Plenty of Gundam series, Gundam 00 finished a couple months ago
Escaflowne (old school goodness)

I remember now. That was supposed to be question number 3:

Which gundam's are worth seeing and so I need to see any to get any others?

I rather like more modern art, but I am open minded. I tried to watch the very first gundam, but I just couldnt take it.

And I watched Full metal Panic, but didnt get to the second season. Was it good?

Second Raid is decent. It's less focused on the mecha and more on the people though.

Im looking for a blend of both, much like Eureka 7. If anyone has seen that.

Blue Submarine No. 6 has some mecha in it (not bipedal though).

Strike Witches for mecha musume and lots of panty shots, can't go wrong with that.

Tekkaman Blade (aka Teknoman) is a great classic. Has a sequel series but there's a lot of mixed reviews on that one.

Might want to check out some Macross. I've only seen Macross Zero but that was pretty good.

Don't like pure mecha anime. Mecha genre is not my type though.

Code Geass and Escaflowne is fine.

I expected that sentence to end very differently.

I forgot. Yes there is a term. People call it "Mecha" simply. Or more specifically "Real Robot" (Realistic giant robot shows, like Mobile Suit Gundam) or Super Robot (shit like Tenna Toppa Gurran Lagann or Gigantor)

I expected that sentence to end very differently.

ditto. Strike Witches? some guys on /a/ consider that pedoshit...would like to show them the Kodomo No Jikan doujins for the lulz

Theres not some specialty japanese phrase?

Can someone explain to me why everyone says Code Geass is so good? I watched about the first 13 episodes then quit. The story was a little silly and the mecha designs were crap. Plus it was borderline harem.

no. there is no special japanese term. the closest thing Im aware of is 'Gattai' which means 'combine' or 'union', used in the subs of animes where he robots combine like Gurren Lagann and Voltron.

think "robot anime" as well. But the general term is 'mecha' and I think even the japanese call it that.

I just found it good fun to watch if you didn't take it too seriously and analyse it. I was bored as fuck and ended up watching around 30 episodes on a marathon, which is the best way to watch anime imo, because you just become encapsulated in the story and don't pay attention to the flaws, you're so tired and engulfed you only see the good side of it to help keep you awake.

But yeah, after that, I caught up with everybody else and it was great fun waiting with everybody for the next episode and discussing it etc.

I thought the mecha designs were actually pretty nice. A bit ridiculous, yes, but not bad, really. They were unique from eachother, and had defined strengths/weaknesses.
The only mechs I dont really like are the gundams. The fact that they never really look different from the very older seasons bothers me, for some reason. I think that I am just expecting a very different looking mech when I think of future tech.

Fo Sho? That would be so ridiculous. Though, when I looked it up, I found that is was not as old as I thought, so it could happen.

I hope you made sure that she knew that you were only watching it for the echhi.
