Step 1: Make a sticky with links to the best threads.
Example: http://www.zoklet.net/bbs/showthread.php?t=75608
Step 2: Archive the best threads.
http://www.zoklet.net/bbs/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=37&page=1&pp=20&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1&prefixid=archived
Easy. Doesn't take long.
Say what you want about Bad Ideas, but NO forum here is better organised.
You'd think that Zoklet would have plenty of good info on drugs. It does, but NOBODY CAN FIND IT. Example: http://www.zoklet.net/bbs/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=34&page=1&pp=20&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1&prefixid=archived
We need mods that can organise their forums and make the good info EASY TO FIND.
Network Security and Hacking and NFHC are probably the two forums most in need of this.

Have you tried contacting the admins about this? If the they were to implement forum organising as a requirement of being a moderator then maybe you would get a better result ;).

A lot of the highest level content in a lot of the boards is subject to a lot of debate, and therefore it's tough to have a static thread that would represent consensus on the topic.
In addition, then you get annoying people who spend there entire time on the board telling people that their questions have already been answered, when in reality the same question can generate new discussion every time it is asked.

Flasks And Beakers would be another forum that needs this.

Don't think it's really applicable for GS; but for TV & Movies I may sticky the movie threads that are currently out in cinemas. Good tip.

Further bullshit posts in this thread will be met with immediate infraction-points, which can lead to a permanent banning of your IP address.
 are there posts in this thread that are bullshit?
also doesn't the thread rating system kind of organize threads?
idk, i don't see the mods actually keeping up with this if its implemented. maybe the first time they actually organize everything, but after that? i don't know, i guess only time could tell

I hate forums that have hundreds of archived threads with doubles of the same information, and about 25 stickies that I have to scroll through to actually find a thread.

i agree... stickies suck. maybe if there was ONE thread stickied which contained links to good threads within that forum...

lso doesn't the thread rating system kind of organize threads?
Not really. Some people go around 1 starring threads by people they don't like, and others 5 star all their own threads.
and about 25 stickies that I have to scroll through to actually find a thread.

This works.

I like to think F&F is pretty well organised, and we have like 2 stickies. they just clutter up the page if there are too many.
edit - I agree about the archives though.
I've never liked this organized approach. It detracts from the conversational nature of the forum. If the forums were textfiles or something to read through, then it would make sense. If someone's curious about something, then they should make a thread and await a response. Innovation is impossible if you always lean on the replies of the past.

Why'd you quit modding Syph, being a mod you could use your powers in the name of good and justice and tickle other mods in just the right way to encourage change?

Ok, well as some of you are aware I've just jumped into the modding of NFHC alongside stupid noob, and I'm well aware the forum needs a bit of organisation.
I don't propose mass thread archiving, hell, mainly because a lot of the threads are garbage with a lot of misinformation and just downright spam through them. It would take a hell of a lot of effort to sort the wheat from the chaff like that.
What I will be doing is writing some basic faqs and doing as you suggested. I'd like to clear the stickies as well and trying to cut down some of the basic questions. I'll start archiving worthwhile threads as needed. and adding these alongside.
Good suggestions, but as I work a sixty hour week it'll take me a couple of days to implement.

forums don't need a ridiculous amount of organising, the definition of forum is a place of public meeting, we come to zoklet to engage in discussion, it's not an encyclopedia. if i wanted information on a certain drug for example, i would just google it or look it up on erowid, i wouldn't jump on zoklet's drug forum and look for a sticky that tells all.

funny thing is, on certain subjects, zoklet (and &T in the day) can be one of the few, if only sources for certain information. I have done many a google and ended right back up here, only to
