specifically with these chords (they're for a song I'm learning for a guitar class)

x244xx
2x44xx
4x44xx
0x44xx

basically I'm just curious what the best way to play those chords while muting the x'ed strings or at least the lowest muted one, I can always just not sweep my pick far enough to hit the high e since my guitar will be in EADGBE tuning with a capo.

Thanks.

I've been playing guitar for around 7 years (just so you trust that I have an idea of what I'm talking about).

Best way to mute strings while playing chords is to let your first finger brush against the top muted string, while forming the chord, while the other side of your hand mutes the other strings behind the fingers forming the rest of the chord. it's funky but it's all in how you press your hand down on the fret board.

If you want some more help or something just let me know.

Scrunchie. On the top fret. Works for me. But I play bass. So... It's worth a try.

just use the fingers your fretting the notes with to mute them. when you switch to a cord where there is a muted string in the middle you should have to make an effort to avoid muting it in the first place. Hard to explain in text but its really easy once you get the feel for it.

Bar the lowest note of each chord, then put your fingers down on higher frets as deemed necessary. To mute strings in between the notes you need to play, place another finger down on the string you're muting, but just press lightly.

For the last chord, just do 099xxx.

I assume this is uh... top to bottom instead of left to right? Not good tablature :confused:

1)x244xx
2 - index finger
4 - ring
4 - pinky

2)2x44xx
2- index
x - rest your middle finger on this one, or bar your finger over it (i can explain this more if you dont get it)

3)4x44xx
bar 4 and use your middle finger to mute string 2

4)0x44xx
bar 4 and let your ends of the finger mute the 2nd string (with the x) and dont let it touch the 0

Strum through the above.
Though I recommend the location shifting as seen in the previous post(s?).
