I'm thinking about making bump keys, my buddy's dad owns a key cut shop. Would anyone be interested in buying some? It'd be like 50 bucks for a set of 30 or so. I'll have to double check pricing.

id love have some, but i wouldnt buy them from you. if you do go through with it, id suggest getting your own e-shop, itd make you seem a little more credible

Yeah, other than the effort to make them theres really nothing else needed. Shoplift some blank keys from WalMart and shoplift a file from a hardware store. Tada.

Is there a thread on how to make these?

I just received (today) a 5 key set for $15. I am currently using them as templates to make more. They work decently well.

The technique is more challenging than youtube and others would have you think. It really doesn't take much force at all to turn the key properly.

I remember one on &T, havent seen one anywhere else though. Of course, I dont really look anywhere else. Maybe you could check out BS or Rorta. Hell maybe RE has one.

I've replicated several of the ones I got yesterday. I bought them mainly for this purpose - so when I reproduced them I would know whether it was the key or my technique if I ran into troubles.

They are incredibly easy to make if you have a small triangular file.

It's all in the tension.
;)

It's not hard at all. Take a bit off the shoulder and tip. Aim for nice pointy triangular teeth.

Despite being horribly misshapen, the above keys spent a long and successful life bumping open locks.
A few years ago when the Internet exploded with bumping I purchased this for a few dollars off of www.bumpkey.us. This is it:

As you can probably guess, it failed miserably. Teeth cut far too low.
Just make your own. It's far cheaper and quite frankly, funner.

Watch this video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2351063543409469388&ei=NLqkScf1LoGyqAL51tg4&q=what+the+bump) as well. It's a presentation on bumping by Toool.

Bump keys....where the fuck do I begin with these things?
You have to get these just right otherwise you are going to get fucked over by your own
creation like I did once and get sent to juvi because you get caught trying to yank the
wanker back out of the door; now where was I? oh yes bump keys. You can either order
one off the net from http://www.bumpkey.us/SPECIAL-Schlage-SC20-p-34.html and my
suggestion is the dexter key if you get it from there but you will need to cut off a bit of the shoulder part and the tip for extra grip like in the pic below:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/manson1996/bumpcut.gif
The tip you just need to evenoff and make look more curved and the shaded part on the
shoulder part you need to just take off about 1mm. In other words you take of 1mm from
the head and th shoulder which is shaded on the diagram. You can also get a locksmith to make you a bump key, but it's just coming up with the right story.

Now if you want to make your own bump key this is how you do it. You get any key you want, and then get a file. You will want to file each notch in the key down to a 9 depth and the shoulder and tip of the key to 1mm; but do it without fucking about though otherwise it'll be all bumpy on the new type of notches you're making and this poor work on the notches is exactly what helps in getting the key stuck
You do not want to go into the middle part of the key either otherwise you've fucked up.
You want all notches to be in place with each other and at a 9 depth notch and it should
look like it does in the pic below (example):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/manson1996/bumpkey.jpg

Just check that all of the tips on your key and the sides of them are smooth, otherwise it'll get stuck in the lock when you go to use it.

How does it work:
Now we put it in the lock the bottom pins in the lock will sit either flush between the two
cylinders or more into the key cylinder allowing all the pins to be pushed up.
How to use it:
We put the key in about a 1/4 of the way and then we turn it as if going to open the lock normally like we would to push the pins up in the lock, put now we've started to turn it you should give it a FORCEFULL(not absolutely fucking smack it otherwise it will get stuck and make noise) tap with a hammer/rubber mallet (I suggest the rubber mallet...don't ask I just do) now this will force the key all the way to the end thus pushing all the pins up since it's already started to touch them when we turned it before hitting it. Alternatively just put in ask normal and add torque to it and it should open. It's about luck more than anything.
ONCE AGAIN THE BUMPKEY SHOULD NOT BE RELIED ON TOO MUCH. BRUTE FORCE IS THE BEST WAY IN.
