Right, I'm posting this because I thought you guys might have some vague idea what is wrong with my laptop.

When I first got it, it started overheating, so I had the hard drive replaced. It came back, and I had decided while it was away that I'd buy a cooling pad ($90NZD). After that, it lasted for a while, a few months. Then it started screwing up again (Wouldn't start up normally, had to run it in safe mode). So I backed up all my files, took it back again. They sent it away to HP for more repairs. Had the hard drive, fan and heatsink all replaced. Got it back, it worked for about 6 months, then started screwing up again (same problem). Now, since I got it back from the first repair, I've been using the cooling pad constantly. So, I sent it back again, and when it came back, they had replaced the CPU, Motherboard, Fan and Heatsink, Hard Drive, and re-imaged the new hard drive. It doesn't even turn on this time (Do they even turn it on after putting the new components in to see if it works?). So, it's currently sent away again. The only reason I haven't got my money back (it's under warranty still) is because I signed a store policy when I brought it saying that they had the right to keep sending it back for repairs up to a certain amount of times before they will replace/refund me. The laptop I had was a discontinued line, so they'll have to refund me. Anyway, if it doesn't work normally after I get it back this time then they have to refund me.

The reason I'm posting? I was wondering if anyone here had any idea what could be wrong with it in the first place.

It's not overheating, I've been seeing what temps the CPU/Hard drive are at when it's turned on, they're relatively normal (using the cooling pad).

Only thing I can think of is a completely random short in some part that hasn't been replaced that has led to the repeated failings.

check connections. My old dell used to have those problems and the issue was that the dvd drive was causing the problems somehow then i replaced it with a cd drive and it worked. I honestly dont know why I didnt look into it, but if it works now it works.

It got sent away again, they replaced the motherboard. It worked for about a day, then started freezing, and then it just wouldn't start, getting to the screen where all the options come up (F2, F4, F10 etc), and doesn't move from there. Can't access the BIOS menu either.
It's currently away now, again. Hopefully they're going to give me my money back... Lesson learned; never buy from HP.

It's a shame really, my laptop was a limited edition (Pavilion dv2700, Artists Edition), and it's a discontinued line :(
