to 'Maths & Science'.

LOL OMG JK!!!!

But seriously, I think the name and description tends to limit the forum a little. Sure 'Science' encompasses all sorts of things, but pretty much the only questions I see there asked are to do with physics and mathematics.

As much as I love physics and mathematics, there's a lot of people knowledgable in things like biology who don't seem to post because they (probably) consider it pretty much to be the maths forum. I think this has a lot to do with the heavy emphasis on Mathematics in the name and forum description.

I'd like to propose renaming the forum to something like 'Science, Engineering and Mathematics' and givingn it a different description, maybe something a long the lines of

"This forum covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, their applications in Engineering, the Mathematics that underpins it all and the Mathematics that underpins that." - Not great, but you get the idea?

PS: As a case in point, I'd invite you to read this post (http://zoklet.net/bbs/showthread.php?t=85048), which is pretty much falling by the way side because the people here that know physiology and biochemistry tend to stear clear of the place.

Sure. But it needs a catchy name.

The Tangential Truth.

Well, there have been a few evolution debates in M&S already, so i dont really think that theres a problem there.

As for the chemistry style discussions. Flasks and Beakers seems to be the place to go to.

To be honest, i think there are a lot of other forums that deal with specific sciences: the pyro, F&B, carve outta wood, and the various computer forums would take a large chunk of science type questions.

I usually think of this as the physics and math forum.

Sounds good to me, man. "Science, Engineering and Mathematics" as you said would even be an improvement. I think "Mad Scientists" worked well but it seems there's a tendency here to avoid the same forum titles from totse with few exceptions.

Throw some ideas out there and we'll get it changed, thanks for the idea.

Threads do get moved between the two forums from time to time and I occasionally contribute to F&B as well, so I don't think there's much of a problem.

Sweet bro

Ok, here's a few suggestions;

"The Road To Reality"
"Universal Truths"

Ok those are both lame. Help us out here, someone. Will post when I have more.

IMO, that'd be more of a flask and beaker's name.

I like the idea of renaming it "Math, Engineering, and Science" but I think it should retain a math/physics/engineering focus. Flasks and Beakers covers Chemistry, Flora and Fauna should cover Biology, and we've got computer/tech forums out the ass. This forum has always seemed to me to be the most mathematically oriented, which of course physics falls in line with.

Flasks and Beakers covers Chemistry

I only ever see really practical lab type chemistry posted there. Not much theoretical.

It's not like M&S is getting a bunch of theoretical chemistry or anything. Sounds like a poster problem to me, not a forum one.
