I started visiting totse when i was about 13 or 14 (yea yea i know underaged shit). Man did i think that shit was so awesome. Shortly after being there I registerd as lord_vampyr. Everyday I would stare at the computer screen or laptop laughin my ass off from SG and Bad Ideas. I loved that shit. Everyday I would look forward finshing school and go to totse. I spent hours on end, made friends with some of you (zuperextreme and hacking tech guy) greatest pair of people i ever met. Totse was with me all throughout my highschool years, I started seeing it as a kid and now that im "legally" an adult i would miss sorely like a close friend or pet.
The other day when I went to totse and saw that message i thought like a little bit of me died. And hopefully by being here i will hold a candle for totse. *sniff sniff*:(

I know how you feel. I lurked on totse when I was 15, and shortly after turning 16 I joined 'cause registration opened back up. I'm now 21. My 5th &t birthday was on the 4th of this month.

Found totse when I was 14. 20 now. :( I miss sitting at home after a hard day of school, relaxing in a chair, browsing totse.com in my school uniform with my pants off. It was great. Memories...

I was one of those kids too who found totse at like 13 and would be so excited to just lurk after school. As much as people were saying how shitty totse was getting, this fucking sucks.

This is such a nice thread. yeah I found it when i was 14 I believe.. and it was good. Nowhere had I ever found as much knowledge on the fringe of society, and it helped shape me into the person that i am today

I found Totse sometime during high school. And now I'm almost 23. It's hard too believe it's been that long. (I was gone for awhile in between though)

Totse was my best friend for about three years.
Now all I've got is zoklet, which is more like a fat, slovenly roommate.

Tordek and I were discussing the impact &T had on our lives.
It's scary to think without it, I wouldn't be in the situation and mindset I am nowadays. i might be like all the sheep I live with! &T = epic enlightnment.
Why didn't Jeff just hand over TOTSE to someone?

totse changed my life for worse and for lulz at a tender age of 15. all those summers spent "murking loar", seeking ideas. now i'm 22. dayum.
Check out Jeff Hunter's old faq, by hindsight, it's quite stirring:
"This web site is about INFORMATION. All sorts and all viewpoints. Some of the information you will agree with, some you will find shocking, and some you will probably disagree with violently. That is the whole point. In this society we go to schools where there is one right answer: The Teacher's. There is one acceptable version of events: The Television's. There is only one acceptable occupation: The pursuit of money. There is only one political choice to make: The Status Quo.
On this web site you are expected to make decisions all by yourself. You get to decide who and what to agree with, and why. You get to hear new viewpoints that you may have never heard before. On this web site people exist without age, without skin color, without gender, without clothes, without nationality, without any of the visual cues we usually use to discredit or ignore people who are unlike ourselves. All of these things are stripped away and the ideas themselves are laid bare.
You will change. You will transform. You will learn. You will disagree.
You will enjoy it." -Jeff Hunter 1989-2009

I found it when i was 14, it was a huge influence during my formative years.
I stumbled on &T when i was googling ways to get free cable TV. I found a text file that detailed exactly what i wanted (moddding an old Jerrold box, ftw!).
I tried introducing friends to the &T forums, but they weren't attracted to it. The only way you could enjoy the &T forums is if you had the inquisitiveness mindset required to read the text archives.
In hindsight, Jeff Hunter either knew exactly what he was doing, or he stumbled on the magic forumlae.

lol @ everybody finding it when they were 14.
I think I found it at that age too. I never posted though, I just browsed the text files. I didnt even know there was a forum until I was around 16. Then I finally started posting when I was 17, stopped for a while, then came back as Marijuanasaurus Rex a few months before it was closed down.
and now zoklet lol

Totse was deffinately like a second father too me...I think i first started lurking here when i was 13, which made me choose to read and study about politics, drugs, bombs ect...so many things a normal kid would be compleatly unawear about. Im probably the only person who is glad Totse isnt up anymore because it allowed me to realise how much it has actually made me who i am...I like to think thats what jeff made this site for it to only be around for a few years and change the ideas and opinions of its many users..Then allow them to move on with their new life.

This is a great thread. I regularly speak to a few people from totse, from the early 00's on MSN. Like the OP said, some of the best people I've ever known. Some weird, strange fuckers as well.
I learned all kinds of crap from totse, and enjoyed it thoroughly. I can't remember when I joined the BBS, specifically, must have been early 00s but I'd been lurking a while.
Your story is very similar to mine. I remember sitting waiting for my sister to get off the phone so I could get on dial-up and browse totse for fucking hours.

I was 14, a few weeks before turning 15 I think.
Totse was alright, but it didn't shape me into who I am today or anything like that. The repository of information thing is true, but by 2005 (when I came to Totse); there wasn't much Totse could give you that you couldn't find elsewhere. It's always just been a place to pass the time, and engage in debate with people.

For that to be true, we would have to not age.

this thread makes me smile.
i found totse around the age of 14 in 2001. i used to read stuff on textfiles.com and a lot of the files there mentioned nirvananet and totse. which led me to totse. i didn't know about the bbs till very later on. i registered early 2002 under the name blackh0le (lol). then in september of 2002 under this name.
countless nights have been spent with you faggots. lots of lolz. lots of bad ideas. lots of links to unwholesome sights and sounds. good times. fortunately, as homo as this sounds, it was us that made the site, not the other way around. so, like the jews, we have just moved on to another land to fuck shit up and taken our culture with us. let us never allow forces that tempt us to separate and always have a backup site to retreat to incase zok dies.

I found Totse when I was 15, looking for info on drugs and shit. I would read those textfiles from when I got home until my parents got back from work. Over the months I branched out to other textfile categories, then finally found the forums. I lurked on and off for a while, finally registered about a year before Totse closed. I don't even remember the name, definitely not Dr. Awkward. Anadayo, possibly. I don't think I posted more than a few hundred times, but it still definitely shaped me.

I grew up with &T. When I was 10 or 11, I googled "how to make bomb." I click the first purple link.
Years later I would find out that my sister was a totse lurker and that's why the link was purple.
I was smoking a joint with her and she mentioned totse and I nearly shat a brick. I was totally shocked :eek:x10^23

I started reading totse when I was 13 I think and my buddy stole a briefcase with money(only about 400 I tthink tho) and checks in it and we were trying to figure out how to open it. I think he wanted to keep the briefcase too or something. I only read the text files whenever I could but we didn't have a computer then. Then I moved in with my old man and he had a laptop and I'd read them for a while, clicked on the sidebar (learned of T shirt hell as well haha) and read something gay and say some thread titles from various groups, read a thread and was like wow this place is full of computer hackers livin in their moms basement and of gay weirdos, and decided this place was stupid outside the text files and thought doing cocaine and drinking whiskey and being a general nuisance to society were a better use of my time.
Then at 18 I broke my back and right heel stealing power tools, got addicted to drugs, came off said drugs, had a massive chip on my shoulder about being crippled and the whole situation and broke up with my gf because it hurt to fuck properly and she wasn't good at bjs. Found the site again lookin for somethin destructive and decided to start posting with the name "getoffmylawn." I did not own a lawn at the time. Totse grew on me fast and I posted for a bit, essentially until I wasn't crippled, then moved out of my moms place but didn't have a computer. I forget when I actually got one but pretty sure I started posting right after that.
Totse was an interesting, hilarious and vibrant place that had information, uniqueness and decent ppl from all walks of life. It started to deteriorate pretty quickly toward the end but the sign was nie. I think certain mods knew. Totse was an honest and human place to me. This colonization of gay suburbanite kids who have nothing interesting, thought provoking or clever to say and a culture of verbal masturbation rather than hilarious, intelligent discourse that was the foundation of the website.
I used to say zoklet is a pale photocopy of even the weaker parts of totses last year or so but that would be giving this website a far bigger compliment than it deserves. The only thing it did right was start up fast with many of the old half decent users getting accounts quickly before jetting when they realized how terrible this place was becoming quickly with wave after wave of dumb, useless pathetic middle american cocksucking bitches who joined this place because no one IRL wanted to listen to them being a little un self reliant bitch all day and anything is essentially possible in zoklet and nearly was in totse.
but anyways, this place has been getting worse progressively. I loved totse because the people were interesting characters who wouldn't fit in with your typical jon q faggot citizen but the faggot preteens have flocked to here like flies to shit and the pile and the plaque are getting bigger

I found Totse in junior high when I was 13. I was pretty angry and pissed, so when I found a site that had all sorts of information like making explosives, breaking into vending machines, drugs, pranks, etc, I was immediately hooked. I used to even go on the site at school. Even though a lot of things, Totse made for some fun days. I learned how to make moonshine from the text files.

I discovered Totse in 1989 through a list of BBS dial-in numbers listed in an anarchy magazine I subscribed to at the time. In those days you just couldn't wait to get home and get that modem squawking.

Hell yeah I remember there was a crazy thread about going into the river with a mirror or some shit and then you shatter the mirror and a dark rider will approach and take you to another plane of existence... anyone remember that?
Yeah I was probably 15, I lurked for a long time before actually registering.... that was a long as time ago. ....
I was around 15, learning how to pick locks. Ended up doing quite a few night ops as well.
I found out my girlfriend looked up my username and all my posts on totse. It's kind of unsettling, because I said I lot of things I shouldn't have...:mad::mad:
