Hey Pyros
Here in Ireland Diesel and Kerosene for agricultural and home heating purposes can be purchased for considerably less than petrol. My question is can diesel/kerosene be mixed with petrol so that the mixture can be easily ignited with the flame from an ordinary butane lighter, and what is the max proportion of diesel or kerosene which can be added for this purpose.

I want to melt some snow and later on burn some rubbish.

Well, for burning rubbish at least, you should be good to use straight diesel. As long as it has a medium to burn on it burns great. Its like lamp oil... give it a wick and it burns.

Actually I just found out straight diesel isn't that hard to light, its possible to light with a lighter :p

Wonder if you can make molotovs with it? I've already made molotovs out of methylated spirits (90%ethanol10%methanol), but straight petrol is better.

Diesel is a heavier, oilier petroleum and just needs that media to support its combustion. Its not hard to lite, nor is a lamp with oil. Good luck lighting that same oil on a sheet of metal on its own though. I'd think a molotov would turn out much the same way... you could get the cloth (the wick) burning alright, but I doubt the molotov would burn that well if you whipped it at a wall. Would greatly depend what it gets thrown at... In a pile of leaves, it'll go like mad, but on a surface that isn't easily combustible on its own, I doubt it.
