SWIM recently purchased a switchblade from a friend/
SWIM realized they were illegal to carry in his state, but recently found out they are completly illegal to posses in his pussy state. (maryland)
What would be the legal consequences is SWIM was caught CARRYING this knife?

It depends.
If he pulled it on someone, then it would be a lot worse. Simply carrying it, he would have it taken off him, maybe fined, and given a criminal record. I doubt they'd throw him in jail for just carrying it, though.

Just keep insisting its a paperweight if they catch you with it.... works about 5% of the time.

Or just don't let them catch you. If the police demand to search you, ask them for their police identification number and make a note of it. A lot of the time they won't even tell you, they'll just say it doesn't matter and walk away.

Pussies who say switchblades are illegal should die. They kill just as much as other knives.

Anyone know about the laws regarding switchblades in Ontario, Canada? I got one from a friend a few years ago, who somehow managed to get it through customs....

Maryland state law does not appear to prohibit the open carry of switchblades, only the concealed carry. § 4-101(a)(5) Dangerous weapons includes, amongst other things, switchblades.
§ 4-101(c) states that:
(1) A person may not wear or carry a dangerous weapon of any kind CONCEALED on or about the person.
(2) A person may not wear or carry a dangerous weapon, chemical mace, pepper mace, or a tear gas device OPENLY with the intent or purpose of injuring an individual in an unlawful manner.

its better to get a spring-assist blade.
its practically a switchblade but doesnt require a button or lever to pull out the knife. you jus need to apply force to the bottom to make it come out and the spring assist does the rest.
i dont see whats the fuckin difference is anyways on a switch and spring assist, jus as a guy said above, they kill nontheless.

quote
" How are Spring Assist different from a Gravity Knife or Switchblade Knife? "
Gravity or Switch Blade knives feature a button, level, or other type of switch that releases a spring pressure to automatically open the blade. On a Spring Assist knife, there is no separate button or switch. Instead, you apply pressure to part of the blade to begin the opening process. This is usually a small bump of metal which sticks out under the knife, making it fast and comfortable to use. Once you press on that part of the blade, it automatically opens and locks into place. Since the action of opening the knife is started by pressing the blade metal, instead of a button or switch, it is considered to bypass the laws which ban Switch Blade knives.

First--OP, please knock off the silly-ass SWIM shit.
Back to topic--possession of autos is illegal under federal law--this law has NEVER been enforced, however--feds are more worried about some guy in a turban with ten pounds of C4 in his shorts.
In my experience, even states which ban autos will not bother prosecuting for possession unless you actually stab someone--the bangers have shit like Mac 10s and so forth these days. If you get caught, it will probably be confiscated.
Spring assists--technically known as A/Os--are illegal in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Not much will happen, but if it does, you'd get charged with something like carrying a concealed weapon, or carrying a banned weapon. (Not that I know anything about American laws.) Probably get it confiscated with a fine.

My stiletto broke, it fucking sucked when it happened.
Just go to Lowe's and acquire an SOG Twitch II. Its small, sharp as fuck, and spring assisted. It opens up fast as hell, and its small enough to be legal in any state (as far as blade length). Its worth the trip, I had one but I traded it for a Buck. Still got my SOG Pentagon II though.

SOG makes great knives, but they are mad expensive. I'd go with a Kershaw Scallion, Chive, or Leek. (designed by Ken Onion. Seriously.)
