I always thought I'd be dicking around on totse forever. Now I guess I'll have to find a new hobby, or get a decent job or something.

Anyway, post your random W&C (sorry, "RTBA") related thoughts here.

Haha, that gun isn't mine.

It's some pic I found on another forum.

I just figured most people would get a laugh about mounting a suppressor on a $150 Hi Point.

In America the tax stamp to transfer a suppressor cost $200, so you can see the irony there.

Greetings I would like to petition LavaRed to make a suppressor how-to thread or at least a documentation of his manufacture of suppressors. I would like to know more about how he constructed a particular suppressor with wooden internals. I would also like him to describe in a bit more detail how the "five a pop" cheap suppressors made with pvc pipe, steel wool, mesh and lithium grease alone. Particularly how the steel wool is situated around the path of the bullet. Thank you very much.

I can't wait to get home to my most recent purchase, a .243 Steyr Scout, with an aimpoint micro red dot (for rapidly shooting roos). The Picattiny rail is long enough to accomodate any scope in any configuration. I am gonna find a quick detatch mount for it so I can give it a nice long range hat also.

I'm still overseas on operations with the army. I really need to get back to Australia. Good to see a lot of you in here. Thanks for the link Lava, I finally got it to work.

Why must these forums require a three or five character limit? Does it really make a difference if someone types 5char/3char or nothing at all? Absolutely not. It baffles my mind why people cannot grasp this common sense, perhaps no one wants anyone to be dignified, or perhaps it is because after all; it shouldn't surprise me, I am the smartest man that ever graced this Earth. No one, and I am willing to bet my life savings on this, can ever surpass me mentally.

Krylon Camo. Not the most durable finish ever, but its easy to touch up and reversable should you decide to remove it or change your pattern.

You mean the knob on the stock? Its to adjust the length.

These were made in the 50's by FN of belgium for the Colombian government. The were originally 8mm Mauser, but as the Colombians bought a bunch of M1 garands form the USA, to simplify ammo supply, they were rebarreled to 30-06 Springfield. The reciever ring has an oval shaped (well half and oval) cut into it to accomodate the longer round.

I got it in tip top shape for $250 AUD (Which is fucking cheap here) and I can group 3 shots at 100m under an inch with open sights.

It should be perfectly capable of this accuracy.
If the bore is too worn, however, that could be another reason for the problem.

Agreed. I don't care about the names, but the administration was somewhat restrictive and hypocritical on that site, in my opinion. Lack of communication between the higher-ups made it a clusterfuck of epic proportions whenever someone had to take administrative action. I really felt like my hands were often kind of tied when it came to trolling, but if given permission, I'd crack down hard in hopes of having a pseudo-professional forum.

Beautiful. Mind if I ask about the barrel specs?

Thanks :-). It's a 20 inch threaded barrel of unknown manufacture without any imprints or laser engraving. I picked it up from a guy who used to do relatively long range shooting and who claimed it was match grade (hence lack of roll markings). He said he believed the rifling was 1/9". It's threaded and currently sports a Vortex FH. The upper is Colt, the lower is CMT, the bolt is Bravo Company, and it has a DPMS LPK. The lower is slightly out of spec, and I can send it back, have it destroyed, and get a new one with the same serial sent to me that should drop free my 30 round mags. But, since I already have an M4gery and another stripped lower that is in spec, I've been lazy.

90's You are given a AK4, a recieverlock and the key.

00's: You are given a AK4b, a recieverlock but you don't get they key, the key is kept by your CO between excersizes.

Will probably happen: 10's: Your AK4b is stored centrally at your HQ in a safe.

I want to put a bipod and a scope on, but I am also seriously considering adding a laser targeting module and bayonet. The reason for the other two are because I have all the evil features I can think of on that rifle; bayonet lug, collapsible stock, flash hider, scary rails....

You have a nice collection. I like the Saiga. Before the political scare, I was handling a friend's pretty frequently with considerations towards buying.

5.56 SS109

I've been contemplating selling my recessive gene of a Savage and buying a Saiga .223 and topping it with a side mount POSP.

Because my Savage can't hit shit.

I still need to get the crooked (factory produced) recoil lug replaced with a machined .25" thick one that I bought but I'm still pessimistic about that solving my problems.

The crooked recoil lug seems to be torquing the barrel to the side when my stock screws are tightened to the factory reccomended 60 in/lbs.

I didn't have that issue with the shitty factory tupperware stock because it seemed to "give" more and conform to whichever way the gun was twisting.

But my Choate Ultimate Varmint stock has the action screw down onto aluminnum "V" bedding blocks and that extra torque seems to magnify all the issues with the recoil lug.

If that makes sense.

It just pisses me off that Savage couldn't get that right at the factory.

And I can't send the gun back, becase it's "old" pre-2003 manfacture and for some shitty reason they don't work on guns made before 2003.

Speaking of Savage, has The_Savage joined?

Also, I was LOLing the whole time I was typing this because of the smilie

A Kobra is a Russian EOTech and, from what I understand, they have some issues.

The PK-01 sight is the Russian Aimpoint and it only has an on/off switch and brightness is auto corrected by a sensor on the sight. (ie, you don't have to click to different power levels to change the brightness).

The Kobra sits directly over the center of the AK and I think the PK-01 does too.

Personally though, I would buy a PK-AS.

The PK-AS is a "dot in a doughtnut" non magnification optic.

However, it has a glass etched retice and the crosshairs are black. So even if you are out of batteries the optic is still useful.

It also has an illumination feature so it can mimic a red dot sight.

It is a probably the best CQB optic available for AK style rifles.

And I think it runs about $250 which is the same price as the Kobra.

As far as I know there are 3 versions of the PK-AS.

The regular PK-AS sits on the left side of the rifle.

The PK-ASV sits over the center of the rifle (like a standard scope).

The PK-ASW mounts directly to a standard Weaver rail for use on non-AK rifles.

My advice, buy the PK-ASV.

Well, the PK-01 is ONLY a red dot.

The PK-AS is a 0x optic with a reticle, think of it as a "black dot, lol. But you can turn on the illumination and use it like you would a normal red dot.

They are both good optics and Russian optics seem to be built like tanks.

The main reason to get a PK-AS over a PK-01 is because when your batteries run out or on the off chance the wiring fails, the PK-01 becomes useless.

Whereas it doesn't matter with the PK-AS and it would still be usable.

The guy named "Tantal" on AR15.com and the owner of avtomats-in-action.com says the absolute BEST optic for the AK series rifle is the PK-AS (or PK-ASV).

And, when it comes to AKs, Tantal is the man to ask.

Also, do you plan on making you Saiga "evil" by adding a regular AK stock and pistol grip and converting it to use standard AK mags?

I dont know if I will do a full conversion yet. maybe when if I get bored of it.

I know how to convert ak mags to work if they are metal it is not hard. You don't even have to put in a feed ramp. You need a welder and a benchgrinder or a hand file atleast to do it.

Did you do your conversion?

As of now all I have is a GP WASR 10/63.

I might buy a Saiga soon, but I don't think I would convert it.

I'd add a skeletonized SVD style stock and a POSP side mount scope and make it more of a semi auto scoped rifle as opposed to and open sight fighting rifle.

Or maybe I'll buy a Romanian RPK and make it a Tabuk style rifle.

So, I took my sks carbine that is, uh, nearing the end of it's life, kinda.

I soldered a washer on the rear sight, just to see if it would make a good peep sight (if I get sick of it, the solder will melt right off).

And this is what I got. I must say, that unlike before, I can actually see what I am shooting at. I cut the front hood down a little, but it still guards the post. I slipped an orange tube over it to aid in sighting in.

I have seen peep sights advertised- for way, way too much, worth more than this rifle is anymore. So I said, "fuck it, why not?"

I likes it. :D It works. My accuracy with it is actually better, not that I have shot more than 50 rounds through it yet.

Honestly, it seems to work well enough from what I have shot within 100 yards.

I don't see just how perfect, considering you can adjust windage in your front post, and elevation from the rear. It is no longer the most accurate rifle in the world mind you, it has seen it's duty.

I will paper it as soon as the weather becomes less than ass-tastic. I bet it is just as unremarkable as it was before.

Hello Random_Looney!
Glad to see that you moved somewhere else to keep sharing your wisdom. I've been wondering where some of the other pyro/chem guys went. Haven't heard a thing from quite a few of them. Mokothar for instance. A few of us have been just keeping in contact with IRC for years now... but its sad that alot of the really bright members just dropped out :(...

At some point far back on TOTSE I think I promised to post more in the weapons section... Then I never really kept up with that. Since there isn't a separate BB type forum here (and even if there was it wouldn't be the same)... I might post here a bit more... or follow it more atleast. Dunno. Time constraints. I'll probably be at APC, the forum of everything, SMDB, and E&W more now for pyro and chemistry. Made a promise to one of the E&W mods that visited our little IRC right after &T went down... to actually read and post at E&W more. Man this forum shit is getting hard to keep up with though when I have classes, random incomplete projects, and not enough time. I need 48 hour days.

All in all though life seems to be going pretty well here. I have alot of pyro/chem options open to me in the future and they all look good. Hope things are going good for you!

Hi! It's good to see you posting here. Do you have MSN? I believe it was your username @hotmail? I'm not on a whole lot, but I'd love to stay in touch, especially if you're not posting here as much as you'd like due to other obligations.

Mokothar hasn't been online a whole lot- I left a message at his blog. There've been requests about a BB forum here, and if you had time, I'd request you mod there. Even if you don't have a lot of time, if we had 3 or 4 mods, maybe we could make something out of it. I'm in the middle of a new BSD install, but maybe I think it would be great to try and get the old BB band together. I can completely commiserate on time constraints. I really wouldn't mind setting up our own little darknet subsect within the community in general, as long as it didn't faction out, but rather was more of an inclusive as opposed to exclusive clique. Mephestos posts around here.

We've been pretty lucky in the W&C arena with keeping a lot of our old members, even though we've taken some casualties :-(.

Hmm... I could probably mod... After this summer I'm going to transfer to some college and try to buckle down and really study. Much like K9 did... Probably won't happen like that though... So I would probably have enough time to check the forum a couple times most days.

Its weird though... feels like I'm the only guy whos still doin pyro. Even so I only get to like 3 or 4 times a year for club shoots... Or working on shows... which I didn't really count in my numbers... it just isn't the same.

News from the local gun show today: My friend paid $200 for a very shitty mosin nagant, and $40 for 40 bullets. He came over to shoot it and so i brought out mine, which i paid $75 for in december and told him when he asked the price i paid.

He then told me that the nagant was better in every way than the Mauser 98 because the germans copied the nagant, and that "the enemy at the gates" was a good source for the history of these rifles. If ever a facepalm was needed, it's now:facepalm:

The other day I was doing a timed shoot, five rounds in 25 seconds at 300m. My first time through I took a breath between shots. I did alright on that one. Enough to pass, but nothing special.

The second time through I decided to try holding my breath and getting all five out in quick succession. This worked a lot better. All five rounds were in a nice tight group in the centre of the target.

Anyone else ever tried shooting like that? I did it a couple of times over the day and got good results. I managed a personal best 5 round group at 100m that way.

(I was using an F88 (steyr AUG) with a 1.5x optic sight in the "prone, unsupported position")

The Savage
03-28-2009, 09:05 PM
How do you like the ballance and feel of the Steyr? I've never so much as picked one up but they look insainely out of ballance and kinda cumbersome to use.

Kyoki
03-28-2009, 10:51 PM
I found it shouldered/pointed quite easily, but the tall guys in my section didn't feel the same way. You might remember I'm knee high to a grasshopper. It seems to be a person to person thing, but shorter people seem happier with it (and more accurate...).

On a side note, if I'm firing prone, I can't comfortably use the front handgrip. It's too far out. I have to have my 'non master' hand between it and the trigger guard. I'm told a fair few people prefer this even if they can use the front grip.

I will say that it is my understanding, that compared to the M4, it is far easier to dual wield Steyrs ;).

Mephistos Minion

LF6 Kyoki? 235 (First Class Shot) is my best so far on it. Group/Zero I usually average below 70mm, mid 50's if I am competing with other digs.

I use the front hand grip because I am lanky. Felt odd at first coming from a traditional bolt action history of shooting, but can't argue with results.

Kyoki
03-30-2009, 08:55 AM
I think it was LF3, but don't quote me on that. It was scored out of 200 (I got 170) and all from prone unsupported, with both timed and deliberate parts. Funnily enough my rapid groups tend to be better than my deliberate at all ranges.

I don't know when I get to do LF6, but I'm looking forward to it. Any tips for me?

In random news, I finally come across some Winchester .22 Long "Z" (Zimmer) rounds - 29gr solid at 770fps -They're pretty sweet little rounds, from my rifle they're quieter than regular subsonics run through a suppressor, and when shot through a can they're probably as silent as you will get (abut the same as firing a primed case with your suppressor attached). I took them for a quick test and found that (as expected) Terminal ballistics were lacking and pentration wasn't great either but i still knocked off 14 out of 16 in about and hour with the longest shot being about 70yards (Hit twice in the chest without dropping).

I just pulled my .22 magnum out of the bedding compound i placed it in last night. I was using cooking spray (canola oil) for a release agent which i haven't used before so that little voice in my head was saying "You ain't gettin that fucker back out" the whole time i was doing it :D .

After a couple of whacks with a mallet I slid a screw driver into the action (where the bolt goes) and pulled up on it while pulling up on the barrel with my other hand and with a *crack* it broke free, 15 minutes later after removing all the greasy plasticine and tape i was looking at a pretty neat bedding job. There are a couple of little spots on the sides where the action sits that didn't fill properly with epoxy (I always seem to have that problem, maybe I shoud let my epoxy get thicker before i apply it?).

In a couple of days when it's hardened properly I'll take it and see how it goes on paper.

Tonight I'm bedding a Winchester .22LR Bolt action so hopefully it will go as smoothly as this one did  .

Edit:
Also question for aussies: What are you paying for .22Lr ammo at the moment? There has been a HUGE price rise where i am, Win Power-points/superspeed/laser ect are going for $65 - $70 per Brick, Even those cheap-o Bushman's are selling for ~ $55/brick!!! So I saned it back first with 80 grit to remove whatever the fuck used to be on it, then moving down to 180 grit to give me a smoother look but still leaving the grain open for the oil. Once that was done it was wiped down with a lint free rag dipped in Metho to remove all the dust and allowed it a couple of hours to dry (I know that's overkill with alcohol but i got busy doing something else) Then 10 coats of Tru-oil were applied 18 - 36 hours apart, lightly buffing the stock with steel wool before each coat.

Thanks, It's a model 320. The main flaw i can see in it is that it only uses one screw to hold the metal work in, on the plus side it's trigger is pretty sexy.

It's the same rifle i mentioned in post #112, With the failed bedding job i was still able to put 2x 10-shot groups into less than an inch at 50y with CCI Mini-Mags but all other kinds of ammo i tried would shoot into 1.5 - 2", so i've pulled out the crappy section of bedding and the new stuff is sitting in there hardening ATM.

Savage in regards to ammo prices, last time i got a brick of 525 federal .22LR it was $35. That was 6 months ago though, I will check next time I buy. It may just be your end of the state though. Damn northern monkeys!

Wow!

I picked up two of the federal packs at my local walmart two weeks ago for $17.63 a box.

Sigh...

They used to be $7-8.00 a box about ten months ago.

A guy from my dad's work is holding a class on hostage and kidnapping prevention and what to do after it happens this weekend. The guy's a full time Jujitsu instructor on top of whatever he does at my dad's workplace, he's an ex-bodyguard, and apparently spent two years training in Israel, don't know what he did over there though. He's taught FBI, cops, and CIA apparently.

Day one is more or less a seminar, as far as i can tell, on prevention steps and such, and maybe a little of how to deal with an abduction of you or someone else.

Day two is a firearms course, which is the best part. Why? Because this guy needed a range to shoot at, so my dad is letting him use ours. That means I'll get at least day 2 of this thing for free (its $65 a day, or $150 for all 3 days). Not sure what all will be in the clinic that day though.

Day 3 is going to take place at some paintball/airsoft place and focus on room clearing and stuff like that.

tl/dr I get a free class on hostage prevention.

Today was the day of the shooting clinic. The 2 instructors were great, idk if i should put up their names or not, but one guy does classes all over the country i guess.

The clinic covered basics first, stance, drawing and aiming, etc. They did some chamber clearing drills and a drill on how to load a mag. I caught a bunch of little details here and there that i'd never thought about.

Next they did live firing. This was about 3 hours long in the afternoon, which happened to be 100 degrees and no wind. The class was mostly of beginning shooters, even a few guys that had never shot their guns(if they'd even shot before), so the first bit of it was kind of tedious. Once people got the hang of it it picked up. We did close up speed shooting drills, a few accuracy drills, and we finished off with a balloon shoot. The Israeli instructor pulled my dad and i aside and asked if we had any snake shot for a pistol, i ran and got my 44 and some bird shot rounds and the guy proceeded to show the class the best trick shooting on these balloons ever(behind the back, from the hip, etc). He did tell them it was birdshot though, it was a good laugh.

Idk if it was the heat or the number of rounds shot, but i've never seen so many jams. When i say jams, i'm not talkin one every so often either, it was like every mag or every few shots with some. People brought:
Walther p22(jammed all the fucking time, major problems)
Ruger P944(jammed)
Berretta M1951(jammed, never heard of it before today, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beretta_M_1951)
XD 40(jammed)
Taurus 24/7 pro in 40(piece of shit, i used to want one but that changed)
Colt 22 like this one:http://www.a-human-right.com/colt22.html (jammed every first round in the mag, sometimes more)
Kahr 9(this gun didn't jam once, it shot great too and i think i'll look more into kahr arms because of this)
Browning Buckmark(no jams, excellent shooter)
Ruger Mk2(no jams, great gun except the mag release)

The teacher recommended 22lr for someone not training with a gun every day as a concealed carry gun. Take that how you want it, but his reasoning was shown in how bad some of these guys were shooting with the 9's and 40's, especially after some of the drills meant to pump up adrenaline. The 22's were staying on target and dumping rounds faster than anything out there. His rationing was that it's better to hit something than to miss with a big gun.

Hope that wasn't to long for everyone.

I don't think anyone realises how much time HIFH spent on Totse. When Bobsled built that usage tracker, HIFH was spending several hours of every day online, either lurking or posting. The tracker checked every ten minutes to make sure you were active, so it wasn't just a webpage left open.

Anyone remember that Edward Taylor for totse a few years back? Right up till the last page of his hitman thread when he burst into the bel-air song it was impossible to tell for sure if he was bull shitting or not, you suspected it but you couldn't be certain. IMO that was the best i have seen. Considering i never suspected HIFH and i doubt anyone else did while he was here, that would be a whole new level of epic. Plus, as horrible as it is to think (and despite the fact I think divorce should prevent one from active duty activation and overseas assignment on psychological grounds), it's not difficult to imagine someone in his position, in what we all seemed to believe was a healthy marriage, apparently caught off guard... not coming back.

BREAKING STORY

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh television station reports four people are dead after a shooting at a suburban health club, including the shooter.

KDKA's report says the killings were at the L.A. Fitness Center in Bridgeville.

Allegheny County police and the medical examiner's office won't confirm that to The Associated Press.

A witness tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper she was in an exercise class when a man came in a back door and started shooting. Ashley Ogordowski says a friend of hers was among the wounded.

Gym member Lauren Dooley tells the Post-Gazette she heard 12 to 15 shots.

"I don't see the need for privately owned firearms."

"Just cooperate with the criminal -- never fight back."

"They just want your car, wallet, or your valuables -- items which could likely be sold for drugs."

Were a few general statements.

Then I came across this,

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,304496,00.html

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The suspects in a deadly home invasion in Cheshire poured gasoline on and around a mother and two daughters, then set their house on fire and fled, according to search warrants released by a judge Tuesday.

The 11 heavily edited warrants provide the first official version of the events of July 23. Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and her daughters, Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, were killed. Hawke-Petit's husband, Dr. William Petit, was badly beaten but escaped.

Investigators found traces of rope-like material around the ankles of all three victims and tied to the two girls' wrists and bedposts, according to the warrants. They also found three partially melted one-gallon gas containers.

"One of the deceased was burned beyond recognition, with indications that an accelerant was liberally poured on her," investigators wrote in a search warrant. "The remaining two victims appeared to have some indication of accelerant being poured onto or in close proximity to them, but not to the same degree as the other victim."

Hawke-Petit was strangled and the two girls died of smoke inhalation, according to the medical examiner.

Paroled burglars Joshua Komisarjevsky, 27, of Cheshire, and Steven Hayes, 44, of Winsted, both face capital felony and multiple murder, kidnapping, sexual assault and arson charges in connection with the killings.

They are scheduled to appear Nov. 6 in Superior Court for probable cause hearings.

An attorney for The Hartford Courant argued last month for the release of the documents. Prosecutors did not object to unsealing the warrants, but defense attorneys said coverage of their contents would make it difficult to find impartial jurors for their client's trials.

Last week, Superior Court Judge Richard Damiani agreed to release edited versions of the warrants. Defense attorneys did not appeal.

"I don't think there is anything new that hasn't been previously disclosed," said Thomas Ullmann, the public defender representing Hayes. He declined further comment.

Police say Komisarjevsky and Hayes entered the home about 3 a.m. July 23, planning to burglarize it. When they found the family home, they beat Dr. Petit, then tied up his wife and daughters.

Authorities were tipped off that the family was in danger by employees at a local bank when one of the suspects forced Hawke-Petit to make a withdrawal around 9:30 a.m. Bank employees became suspicious and called police, who drove to the Petit home.

The suspects were caught in the family's car after ramming several cruisers as they fled the burning home, which they allegedly torched to cover their tracks. Dr. Petit escaped to a neighbor's house.

Police searched a car registered to Komisarjevsky's mother and found a package for a BB gun, duct tape, a Lowe's Home Improvement store receipt, flexible ties and different types of gloves, according to the warrants.

In another car, they found Dr. Petit's wallet, his wife's wallet, two pearl necklaces and a red, blood-like stain.

The warrants also allowed police to test various items for traces of blood, saliva and semen.

A seventeen and eleven year old burned alive.

The death sentence...
Or life in prison...

Is not even remotely satisfactory punishment for these two criminals.

I thought you guys would be interested in this so I'll share.

Some times we hear things about how shooting can be bad for our health because of airborne lead and exposure to lead in general As some of you know, I go through a fair few rounds a year (around 2500 centerfire rounds in the last 12 months with a few thousand .22's mixed in), I some times shoot & I often clean in poorly ventilated areas and load most of my own ammo. So i went to the Doc a few weeks back and while he was taking blood I asked him to check my lead levels mainly out of interest. Turns out it's fine. So unless you spend your days placing charges and clearing rooms I'm going to say you have more chance of catching deer flu and dieing than getting sick from lead exposure.

If anyone is looking for some plates, this place has stand alone Level IIIs for $100 a pop. Unlike most "stand alone" plates that are uncoated, these ones are coated with Line-X (kind of like that Rhino Lining stuff for truck beds) to protect against bullet fragments from the impact.

I just got my two today (9.5x12.5) and I'm impressed. They are much lighter than I though they would be.

I'm just waiting on the carrier and I'll be set.

Some people aren't happy that these don't stop 5.56 M193, however, they stop commercial .223 and 5.56 M855. I didn't really buy these for protection against rifles, I bought them because I know for sure that their protection level is higher than any soft vest I could get and that they are much more durable than Kevlar. Realistically, most street thugs are armed with pistols, so if these can stop 7.62x29, they will damn sure stop 9x19.

Anyway, just letting you guys know about a good deal in case anyone is interested.

When Carleen left Tasmania some weeks ago she was unaware that others
had recently spoken out on behalf of her son, most prominent being
Brigadier Ted Serong DSO OBE, the former head of Australian Forces in
Vietnam and one of the world’s leading experts on counter-terrorist
techniques and their application. In an interview with Frank Robson in
the Sydney Morning Herald on 10 April 1999, Brigadier Serong makes it
plain that Martin Bryant could not have been responsible for the mass
murder at Port Arthur. "There was an almost satanic accuracy to that
shooting performance" he says. "Whoever did it is better than I am,
and there are not too many people around here better than I am". He
continues "Whoever did it had skills way beyond anything that could
reasonably be expected of this chap Bryant ... if it was someone of
only average skills, there would have been many less killed and many
more wounded. It was the astonishing proportion of killed to wounded
that made me open my eyes first off." Brigadier Serong believes more
than one person was involved and directly infers that the mass murder
at Port Arthur was a terrorist action designed to undermine Australian
national security. "It was part of a deliberate attempt to disarm the
population, but I don’t believe John Howard or his Government were
involved. Howard is being led down a track. He doesn’t know where it’s
leading, and he doesn’t much care..."

Some readers might consider that as a soldier Brigadier Serong is not
qualified to comment on police matters, but they would be wrong. In
addition to his acknowledged military achievements he also raised,
trained, organised and directed a police force larger than all the
police forces in Australia combined. After returning to Australia, as
he notes in his book Defence of Australia Analysis: "I did gently but
firmly decline a suggestion that I be Victoria’s Chief Commissioner of
Police." Brigadier Ted Serong is thus far better qualified to comment
on the chain of events at Port Arthur than the current commissioner of
the Tasmanian Police Service, who commands a total force of less than
one thousand men, none of whom has any knowledge of international
terrorism or practical experience of counter-terrorist techniques.

...

Either he was a sleeper and is only reported to be in solitary confinement and is now part of a secret unit, or he didn't do it.

I'm keen to get out of the country for a bit at the end of the year... Any ideas? Budget is about $5000AUD/$4000USD.

One friend is suggesting I paratroop my way across Japan with him, another that I visit her in Colombia. The list goes on and on.

Anyone been somewhere they'd highly recommend?

Are either of those good ideas?

Do you mean paratroop as in switch-on or as in going parachuting around the country?

Could be good for glitch making though.

I don't know as much about guns as I thought I did, perhaps. What gun would you say this is?

http://ilovedust.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/hellokittygun.jpg

I said AR-15 or one of its variants due to the in-line stock and general look of the gun, but the... upper receiver(?) doesn't look like the usual thing you see on AR-15s, or at least that I have.

Just looks like a pink Duracoated flat-top HBAR AR15 with a rail system.

Also looks like they have an RRA Entry Stock mounted to a spacer at the rear for a shorter length of pull.

I'm trying to find FFL dealers and places where I can get accessories. (I want all the hi-cap mags I can get, lolz). Google gave me kinda 'heh' results, and when I tried the yellow pages was a little hard to find anything useful.

Anybody local on this forum wanna help me out? Any information on local shooting things, as well as any pertinent municipal laws (I already know the state ones pretty well) would be greatly appreciated.

Got to handle a russian mosin nagant for the first time a couple days ago along with some modern 9mm ruger and a pretty old .30 colt with a beautiful well-used finish? I dunno. They were all beautiful though.

EDIT: not .30, but looking on a colt site, i think the pistol was a 1903 or 1908 hammerless... hmm... I wish I had gotten a better look.
EDIT2: the ruger was definatly a SR9 9mm. I remember the rubber along the back of the handle. A sexy dark green I think it was.

Might be time to start making up roomers, Like i heard that he was actually Michael Jackson, and now he's hiding out in Burma pretty close to where Elvis spent some time after he "died". Since he can't risk being compromised he's had to stop posting for a while till the heat dies down. Let's just pray he isn't around any small children.

Then again I heard another version from a reliable source that says he accidentally killed two Korean hookers and their midget pimp in a cheap motel in new mexico and had to make a dash for Argentina.

Hey guys. I have a quick question I didn't really want to make a thread for. Assuming you had some quality wood, appropriate tools, and some basic woodworking skills, could you make a stock for a rifle? Not something fancy or fully auto (m16 variants, AK's, etc) Just say an old bolt-action hunting rifle. I guess what it comes down to is, is there more to stock making that there appears to be?

Thanks

LavaRed

Yes you can. Even for fancier guns like AK's and AR's. You just need to be a bit practiced at working wood.
I suppose it would just take a lot of patience.

Actually I believe it would be more difficult to make a stock for a bolt action rifle that it would for an AR or an AK.

The action of a bolt action rifle directly interfaces with the stock, so the fit and in letting needs to be more precise.

ZX9R
09-26-2009, 05:32 AM
Producing a stock for the AR15 (for most of them) would be a bit more complicated considering the buffer / spring tube assembly works in tandem with the stock -- compressing in to the stock after each pull of the trigger.

My uncle has made a couple for Lever actions, I have a nice walnut stock he made for a Winchester 94/22 around her somewhere. I think the in letting would be the biggest problem for a bolt action stock. Keeping everything symmetrical takes more skill than I have but it can be done and i'm sure there are tricks to it I've just never learned. If you're not overly skilled you could always do all the shaping: butt, pistol grip, fore-end ect and take it to a stock maker to get it inletted, then finish it yourself, it would probably save you a couple of hundred.

Also i'd suggest getting a blank of pine or something cheap to practice on, depending on the kind of wood you could loose a lot of money if you screw up. It's been a long ass time since i looked into it but higher grade walnut blanks can sell for $200 - $500 IIRC. Also make sure the wood is dense enough to withstand the recoil or you'll get cracks very quickly. Not a prob if you're doing a .22 or .223 but if it's something with a lot of recoil (dangerous game rifle for example) you'll need strong dense wood and maybe a cross bolt or two.

Make a thread of your progress if you go ahead with it :) .

The buffer/spring combination doesn't touch anything outside of the buffer tube.

I figured all that would need to be done is hollowing out a cavity in the stock so it slides around the buffer tube.

Indeed.

It functions inside -- which would make it more challenging to produce the stock?

Thank you for posting something universal to all countries however, it is difficult to tell with 100% certainly what caliber rifle cartridges those are. However I believe with reasonable certainty that the smaller one is .223/5.56 having seen thousands of them. Which would make the larger round... .308?

No, I'm not actually, without something of known size in the picture to judge by then it can actually be quite difficult identifying a cartridge from a picture unless they have something very distinctive about them. 5.56, .308, and even .50BMG all look quite similar without some sort of referance for size as they have about the same shape only scaled up as the rounds get larger. The closer you hold a camera to an object(or more you zoom in) the large it appears, and vice-versa. At least I'm not very confident in my judgement as to what the rounds were, was I correct? Or am I way off?
