That's pretty funny.
In January, 777,000 copies of Wii Fit were sold (along with 680,000 Wiis).
The PS3 managed 203,000 units sold.

All that shows is that Americans purchase things that are trendy. I can think of numerous acquaintances and family that have bought work out equipment, only to put in in storage within a year or so.
Plus the Wii is cheaper than the PS3, but not for long (word on the street is, there will be a 250 PS3 coming maybe in March or May).

It's not just Americans buying Wii Fit though, it's quite popular in Europe and Japan as well.
Obviously people are prone to fads all over the world, but I still think it's quite funny that soon there will be more people who own one game for the Wii (a $90 game at that) then there will be people who own PS3's.

when there are less fat people than PS3's, thanks to Wii Fit; than I will be impressed.

Indeed.
It has worked for some people though. One of the IGN Wii editors, Mark Bozon, lost like 30 pounds using Wii Fit.

A PS3 is still four-hundred fucking dollars.
Is WiiFit? I think not.

Even so, it's not often a game outsells an entire console. Especially a $90 game bundled with a peripheral.

i personally believe the 360 will get people more fit than Wiifit.
making your way to and from the post office would do that to you :D
But seriously,
When is the Jane Fonda edition Wii Fit coming out????

I don't know if the statistic would be quite that high, but I'm sure they are more people who stop using it than there are people who lose any significant amount of weight using it.

true. but as with any diet or exercise equipment, it's not how capible it is, but rather how often one properly sticks to it. ironically enough, I'd say obese people are more likely to try or own diets and exercising equipment, respectively -- as compared to people of fair proportion. Wii Fit is a fun and great twist to exercise; but in the long run, it is still exercise. it still requires movement and dedication. it's not a flaw of Wii Fit, it's a flaw of human tendacy.

Multi-platform games do all the time.
You were like the kid who sat in the back of the class alone and always had the answers to all the questions and everyone including the teacher thought you were a world class loser right?
Yes, there are a couple multiplatform games that have outsold the PS3 as well. Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto are the only three that spring to mind though.
Oddly enough, there are no games (not even the big three I mentioned above) that have outsold either the 360, or the Wii. The point is not only that Wii Fit is selling exceptionally well, but that the PS3 is selling very poorly.
Thanks for proving the point, I guess.

granted, that is a graph around the holiday season and lots of people bought Wii fit for christmas. i'd expect the sales to drop off now.
As for PS3, its not really a 'gift' console because of the price, so people who want the PS3 will continue to buy them at a decent rate, especially with inevitable price drops through out the year.
So what i'm trying to say is that the graph is a market trend over the holiday season and i'm predicting that the Wii fit wont catch PS3 sales.
thats my reasoning anyway. it would be nice to have a comparison in a couple months to determine the outcome, but by then this thread (points and opinions made therein) will be long forgotten.

This may be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen someone say.
This is a graph "around the holiday season", yet it encompasses the entire lifespan of both products?
Furthermore, if you weren't retarded, and could actually you know, read a graph, you'd see that Wii Fit didn't receive any significant bump in sales during the holidays and is in fact selling like gangbusters no matter if it's July or November. This is because Wii Fit is supply limited.
This is also ignoring the fact that Wii Fit sold 777,000 copies in January, making it the best selling game of the month. Exactly how much Christmas shopping do you suppose most people do in January?
Seriously dude, are you that fucking dense?

Okay i was wrong about the period of the graph, but my point still stands about the holiday season sales.
Look at it again and tell me there wasn't a considerable increase in the period of Nov to Jan 08 which really boosted the Wii Fit greatly (looks about 300-400 thousand more than the usual trend at a quick glance) in catching up to PS3 sales.
as i said,
lets see in a couple months time..
or you can argue, who cares. Either way it doesn't matter in the slightest

1. Note how graph says "US" sales. You can't claim more people will own a Wii than PS3 from this graph alone. PS3 has shifted 21 million units, Wii Fit 13million, if more people were to own Wii Fit than a PS3, then Wii Fit would need to continue selling at the same rate for an entire new year, assuming PS3 sells 5 million units this year - which is probably way too low of an estimate.
2. Steepness of line = how quickly product is selling. Note how it gets steeper around Christmas for both products. It doesn't matter if it's supply limited: Nintendo KNOW they're going to sell more, so production will be upped.
3. Are people going to keep buying Wii Fit at a constant rate forever? When will graph level off?
4. PS3s are going to come down in price and new games will be released. Thus it'll still experience same rate of growth, if not more.
Now please, shut the fuck up. You can't state anything as fact because not only is your graph flawed, but you just don't know what's going to happen.

1. Note how graph says "US" sales. You can't claim more people will own a Wii than PS3 from this graph alone.
My bad, I forgot to add "In the US" (the largest market for videogames). Of course, if this has been a thread about Japan, the title would have been "Lulz, more people own Wii Fit than PS3's".
PS3 has shifted 21 million units, Wii Fit 13million, if more people were to own Wii Fit than a PS3, then Wii Fit would need to continue selling at the same rate for an entire new year, assuming PS3 sells 5 million units this year - which is probably way too low of an estimate.
Where are you getting your worldwide numbers? PS3 is closer to 20 million, while Wii Fit is closer to 15.5 million.
Going by the graph, and going by trends in sales (PS3 sales are down from last year during November, December, and January) it's a safe bet that Wii Fit will be in more US homes than the PS3 by the end of this year. And as I said, that's already the case in Japan. After that, only Europe is left.
2. Steepness of line = how quickly product is selling. Note how it gets steeper around Christmas for both products. It doesn't matter if it's supply limited: Nintendo KNOW they're going to sell more, so production will be upped.
What does that have to do with anything? Every month Nintendo sells out of Wii Fits because it's supply limited, what difference does it make if they up the available units during the holidays and still sell out then? It's already proven that it's not Christmas causing a bump because the thing still sold nearly 800,000 units in January, even in a shit economy.
3. Are people going to keep buying Wii Fit at a constant rate forever? When will graph level off?
We can't know anything in the future for certain, but we can look at trends and make an educated guess.
Wii Fit continues to sell out, and is in fact selling more now than during the month it was released.
PS3 continues to sell out, and is in fact selling less than it was at this point last year.
You can take a "wait and see" stance, but the writing is on the wall. If you don't want to read it, that's fine.
I mean, don't worry guys, it's okay to own a third place console. I had a Gamecube last gen and enjoyed the hell out of it, moreso than my PS2 in fact. Sure, it wasn't so sad that exercise equipment was outselling it, but I mean, it was still pretty grim.
You can't argue with Opiate. He's a moron. Can't argue anything with a moron as a moron has no argument. Just watch him closely to make sure he doesn't stick out his eyes as he types his next reply.
