Cousin's wedding. First time I've been on a plane since 2000; first time I've left my country since 2005; first time I'll have left the time zone! What should I expect (aside from tea and exorbinant exchange rates for the British pound)?

I was going to change my name to Abdulai Mahmood-Rahim and get a Nigerian passport, but for some reason that is frowned upon. Stupid infidels :hrmph:

Do it, claim asylum and we'll pay you for nothing and you'll get a house plus free health care.

Don't get your hopes up for tea. 99% of stores in London are Starbucks. Actually, they have tea.
Carry on.

Make sure you go to a chip shop.

And it's cold, shitty weather. The people are always in a rush and we're not as friendly to strangers as you yanks.

And the Mancs talk funny. They're northern, primitive people. When you get down to London you'll find regular speaking, intelligent people.

And 16 is the age of consent here ;)

More bitter, and ale. Worse weather. Overbearing fascination and/or people looking down on you for being (presumably, forgive me if I'm not right) from the US. Interesting and delicious if somewhat stodgy domestic cooking, and very greasy takeouts; possibly more spice in them than you're used to, too.
Different flavours of crisps. A wide range of accents, some of which may be incomprehensible at first hearing, if they're especially thick.

Again, not being demeaning, or at least not intending to; just listing things which mightn't occur.

"... and of couse, 52% of our days are overcast, resulting in a relentlessly chipper population given to introspection, binge drinking, and casual violence." - Bill Bailey

How is the beer in your garden variety English pub? Are their stout beers worth investigating?

Most sell all the commercial stuff like Stella, Fosters, Carlsberg etc, and then some do regional
