What about those of us who generally don't post in forums that give thanks? Also, you'll find most people's 'thanks' come from silly one-liners or funny photoshops rather than a decent contribution.

While that isn't a bad thing, it defeats the purpose of stopping the VIP lounge descending into some childish lulz-fest.

Finally though, it doesn't matter anyway- the VIP lounge is a dead forum.

The idea has merit. It would ensure that only proven good posters are allowed access, and not just any idiot who can rack up 2k posts and wait 6 months would be allowed in. If someone has 2k+ posts, but only a few thanks, chances are those 2k posts weren't all that useful.

The thanks system would be abused much like reputation on Totse. Not that the VIP lounge is a place everyone is dying to get into though there are afew freaks out there that will try and abuse the system to get in.
