How could anyone maintain any sort of civilization in Antarctica without other territory to subsidize its existence? For one, how'd they get energy down there? They'd need a lot. Is there secret oil in Antarctica?

Theres a American base in NZ called 'Harewood'. (Thats just the name of the area its in) they have a few Hercules & Skylifter aircraft & some other stuff at the airport.

Antartica is so far away that when they takeoff they do it with a full load & almost empty fuel tanks & using JATO (jet assisted take off) rockets on the planes.
Once they get up into the air they use fuel tanker aircraft to fill the planes fuel tanks back up again.
Theres lots of Kiwis worked down there, everyone knows of someone whos been there.

The American base is very close to the Kiwi base, you can go there almost all the time (except deepest winter) but you have to get permission etc (too easy to get caught out in bad weather).

But I have never heard of any secret bases down there.

The Nazi research facilities are in the US, because that's where the Nazi scientist are. The US scooped up anyone with a brain and the rest scattered into other positions of power or retired and are living happily on stolen money. Thus the end of the Nazi regime.

Rolf thinks that they smuggle the spice for Jabba the Hutt and smuggle it into Hutt space via Bothawui in Bothan Space. Rolf says most of it goes into Nar Shaddaa where it is then transported down to Nal Hutta by YT-2400 light freighters.
