The other day I had to have a tire replaced. I had it done at a brake/tire/oil place. A day or two later I check the oil, and it is half empty. -_-

I've had the same oil level beforehand for months at a time, and the car does not appear to be burning it. It is parked at the same spot all day, and there are no leaks. There is no smoke from the exhaust (that I can see) or any symptoms of oil burning.

I changed the oil and the old stuff was really fucking dark, and there was only like 2.25 quarts of oil in there. The capacity is 3.4 quarts.

Will it cause any damage to drive with the oil pan only half full for 100 miles or so?

Did they not like me and siphon my oil out? What the fuck?

How do I figure out if my car is eating oil? Just drive it like I do and check after a month to see if level is diminished?

If this was Russia in the 90's, I would just go back to the tire place and shoot them all just to be sure.

That's it, I've had it with Vauxhall/GM. Next time I buy a car, I'm doing shit loads of research to make sure absolutely nothing at all on the car has ever been even remotely in the vicinity of GM.

Today, I was just pottering around with my car, cleaning it, hoovering out, dusting, and checking fluid levels in the engine, when I decided, I'm not closing this bonnet until I have definitively sorted my boost problem.

Long story short, I have discovered the wastegate actuator is faulty, and dumping out boost when it shouldn't. I've never really worked on a diesel before, but I now know that diesels can't generate their own vacuum and thus need a pump, and the wastegate actuator on my engine is powered by what Vauxhall simply call a vacuum box, driven off the vacuum pump.

Anyway, it is this vacuum box that is faulty.

So, I went to Vauxhall to price up a new one. "Oh yeah," says the parts salesman "out of the whole turbocharging system, if anything breaks, 9 times out of 10, it's the vacuum box."

So clearly a well known, liable to fail part. So upon trying to order a new one, I was presented with this parts list:

Fucking bastard arseing twat wankers!!!! The parts salesman also gave me the schematic of the turbo system, it is a separate part, just the bastards refuse to sell this well known failing part separately, and instead demand £570 for a new turbo!

A bit of an epically long rant, but I just had to vent my wrath to people who may be interested. But this is the last straw, never again will I ever own anything GM has had a hand in. A Lotus Carlton is no longer in my dream garage. Never will I own an Opel Manta. There is no wonder the twats went bust, with business practices like this. America, why did you bail them out?! They're complete arseholes!!

Some 70 year old faggot flew out of a residential street in front of me when I was going 30 on an arterial. Had to hit a curb to avoid rear ending him. Popped a tire and slightly bent a wheel/rim/whatever its called.

Now, I'm not a faggot, so I want to get OEM wheels.

I think it said somewhere that my OEM wheels are aluminum alloy, but I can only find steel replacements? Is there a tag on the wheel somewhere that says what size/material I need?

Help a nigga out, I need to put a good wheel in there to tell for sure if I feel any difference in driving/handling. Kind of worried that I might have fucked a strut or some such shit.

I bought a 2003 VW Golf yesterday, it's only a 1.4 L petrol engine but I bought it as a runabout (to get me to work and back basically). Got insured on it for £340/year. I got £90 back from my old insurance, and will get £150 scrap value for my old car, so £240 should be back in my account soon.

It's done 139,000 miles and has most of the mod cons you'd expect, electric windows front and back, window lock, child locks, air con, trip computer etc..., much more loaded in this regard than my last car.

I got the car for £640 (not bad considering my budget was around £3000), drove it home (~50ish mile motorway journey) with no problems, and drove to work and back today with no problems. It drives "OK".

Looking at the previous MOT certificate their are some advisory items, a tyre that's looking like it needs replacing (no biggie) a problem with the front wipers where it stays on intermittent when it should be off (not a major issue just an annoyance). The advisory note also says the bottom arms bushes are "cracked" - which I'll get fixed up immediately - unless the previous owner already has.

I'll get the car fully serviced on Thursday by a trusted mechanic who kept my last car (a 97 Toyota Carina) running well for four years with no problems.

I have no idea when the last cam belt was fitted so I will get that replaced on Thursday.

Other snags are that the key is a second key and sets off the alarm of the car unless the ignition is turned within about 30 seconds - apparently there's a place near me that's shithot in terms of key cutting/programming for cars so I'll check that out, unless there's some other fault with the immobiliser.

One of the passenger doors doesn't open from the inside - I think the child lock is "fucked". I'll look into fixing it but it's no biggie.

There's some minor damages and scrapes which I'm not bothered about.

I'll get a picture up sooner or later.

I need someone's take on this. I accelerated hard from a standstill and I think I fucked up my trans. So here's what happened.

>At Stop
>Press accelerator hard (getting into fast traffic)
>around 20/25 MPH the automatic shifts into 2nd (normal for pressing hard on accel - soft = 15)
>Trans gets confused and shifts back into first around 20mph
>Really high RPM and vibrating car
>Ease off gas because WTF and shifts back into 2nd, but not instantaneously like normal
>Everything is fine now?

Well, except after that it's become permanently fucked. As in, it used to shift into 2nd at 15 and 3rd at 25, but now it shifts into 2nd around 20 - during really high RPM (car doesn't have a tach but it vibrates like a bitch and the engine screams) AND I have to ease off the gas in order for it to shift, or else it just keeps in 1st like a stubborn cunt.

When I drove easy (prior to all of this), I normally let off the accel a TINY bit when I knew it was going to shift, and NOW when I let off a little, it stays in the same gear regardless, and the RPM skyrockets. When it does get around to shifting into 2nd, I can hear a metallic whirring noise followed by a click (not specific but w/e) from the undercarriage just before the shift. It doesn't jerk or lurch or anything like that, still smooth shifting...just later than normal.

Is this indicative of anything right off the bat? This only happens between 1st and 2nd gear and it feels like I'm killing my car every time it happens.

i drive a lovely '98 lumina

Well, blew up the passenger side turbo. Which makes me done with the car. I will be parting it out to get the most out of it, which leaves me the question of what to get.

I want to be able to pick up a good, running example for >2-3k.

I want to build another sleeper. Turbo. Doesn't matter if it's turbocharged from the factory, I would actually prefer it wasn't. I want to make it look nice (though this is obviously subjective). Two door is highly preferred, factory or swapable manual is required. RWD or AWD.

Things I've been thinking about:
BMW E28 or E30 (Was there a 2dr E28??)
Merc 190e
Audi 90
Volvo 240/???
Corolla AE86

I would like to see more Jap represented on this list, but it has to be an all-season capable and semi-practical car. As much as I want a Miata, MR2 etc it's not realistic at this point.

Thoughts?

Didn't know where else to put this, and you guys were helpful last time so thought that I'd ask this here.

I wired my sub and amp up yesterday after building my own box for it, today I accidentally pressed down on the cone itself with my elbow when trying to get something from the boot (subwoofer was facing upwards) and I heard a crunching noise.

I've tried playing music through it, and it seems like the voice coil and magnet are fine, but they just aren't having any effect on the cone itself, I can hear noise coming from the speaker very faintly but the rubber itself isn't moving at all.

What are the likely causes of this? And can anyone link me to a guide on how to repair it if possible?

I can't really look at the back of the speaker right now because it's screwed into the box and there's too much fucking about involved to get it out this late at night, I can upload pictures tomorrow however if this will help with diagnosis.

My old 1996 Ford F150 was bondo yellow, had a straight six in her, and was a bit of a local legend.
She went by Betts because as soon as you stepped into her all bets were off.
Gave me some good years and I still miss her.

My current truck is the green meanie. 1985 F150 4X4 standard. Dirty old slut loves to run through the mud and forest all day every day.

My other 85 F150 hasn't got a name yet though. I may decide after I swap out the engine to that 390 V8 I've got sitting around. Defiantly going to be turned into a sleeper.
A possible name I've been mulling around is either double double or donut. I figure since the cops are probably gunna be chasing me all the time in her I may as well name her right.
