This is my first time making bread.

I did:
2 cups warm water
6 cups white flour
Half a cup of raw sugar
Dash Of Salt
Generous heaping of lard
Some yeast

I was kind of a lazy ass and dissolved the lard/sugar on the stovetop, then added the yeast after a few minutes. Im kind of worried that I killed the yeast, but idk. I immediately dumped it into the cold dough and it cooled down.

Right now Im waiting for it to rise. The bread is a little too sweet for sandwiches, but Im thinking I might use it for cinnamon toast/pb&j/french toast. That kinda stuff.

Right now Im waiting for the yeast to do it's thing. Or maybe it died, idk.

If it turns out good, next recipe I will make some kickass 'artisan' bread with basil and jalapeno and cheese. mmm fuck yes.

Wish me luck &z.

And share me some of your bread stories. I would *loaf* to hear them. :smugcat:

Apparently this is how it's done and includes boiling once and frying twice.

The fries are then flumed out of the A.D.R. room to the "blancher." The blancher is a large vessel filled with one hundred and seventy degree water. The trip through the blancher takes about fifteen minutes... After the fries leave the blancher, they are dried and then it's off to the "fryer," which is filled with one hundred percent vegetable oil. The oil is heated to three hundred and sixty five degrees and the fries take a fifty second dip before being conveyed to the "de-oiler shaker," where excess oil is "shook off."

Bingo.

So McDonald's does indeed use a double fry method, but it's far from the traditional one. Rather than a slow low temperature fry for the first round, the fries get dunked into very hot oil for only 50 seconds (the second fry is then carried out at the actual location). In addition to this, the potatoes get a pre-fry blanching step in hot water. What could the purpose of this be?

Place potatoes and vinegar in saucepan and add 2 quarts of water and 2 tablespoons of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Boil for 10 minutes. Potatoes should be fully tender, but not falling apart. Drain and spread on paper towel-lined rimmed baking sheet. Allow to dry for five minutes.

2

Meanwhile, heat oil in 5-quart Dutch oven or large wok over high heat to 400°F. Add 1/3 of fries to oil (oil temperature should drop to around 360°F). Cook for 50 seconds, agitating occasionally with wire mesh spider, then remove to second paper-towel lined rimmed baking sheet. Repeat with remaining potatoes (working in two more batches), allowing oil to return to 400°F after each addition. Allow potatoes to cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Continue with step 3, or for best results, freeze potatoes at least over night, or up to 2 months.

3

Return oil to 400°F over high heat. Fry half of potatoes until crisp and light golden brown, about 3 1/2 minutes, adjusting heat to maintain at around 360°F. Drain in a bowl lined with paper towels and season immediately with kosher salt. Cooked fries can be kept hot and crisp on a wire rack set on a sheet tray in a 200°F oven while second batch is cooked. Serve immediately.

Ever find yourself in a situation where you need to finish a big bag of potato chips in less than 5 minutes ????

What you need :

[1] A big bag of potato chip.
[2] A 10'' salad bowl. Bigger is better.
[3] Warm water or milk.

Pour the chips into the bowl and pour warm water or milk. Let it soak and then you can either chain-spooning yourself or drink it straight.

This way you can get all the calories of a big bagg of potato chips + some in less than 5 minutes.

You now have been energized for hours.
