I came home and drank some water from the fridge or perhaps it was ice tea and decided to make a call to my girlfriend when I got tired and thought I would lay down for a moment to catch a cat nap.

For the first time I had experienced something I never did before. No one back then ever talked about the phenomenon "Sleep Paralysis" which it is commonly known today and often spoke of especially on websites.

I had gone to a Doctor but was afraid to ask him what I had experienced because of what was to follow.

I told him I had waken up and couldn't move anything except my eyes.

He had a name for it but I don't recall what he said. He didn't call it "Sleep Paralysis" though. But he described that the body releases a chemical to keep you from acting out and harming yourself. but if that is true than why do we roll around and toss and turn all night as well (which clearly is to help circulate blood).


What I feared to tell him was I woke up and saw something staring at me. I really feel I was not hallucinating. I broke free from this paralysis and lunged for whatever the hell it was. It ran and hid under the bed with me a fraction of a second behind it. it just disappeared. door shut. I checked everything and could not find it. But it was very real or seemed to be.

I later found out that I (like many people on this planet) suffer from Sleep Apnea. very bad sleep apnea. I stop breathing for several minutes.

So I'm told that's what caused it. Since then I have had other weird experiences. Problem is, I have experienced at least 3 incidences where my family did as well. I awoke to experiences a strange light and when I went to reach over to wake my spouse my spouse was already sitting up and at that very moment spoke of what we were seeing. a greenish glow in the room. People have jokenly made comments like "you're remembering the film Heavy Metal". But I'm curious if the person who wrote that film had experienced something similar years before we had. and Yes, I remembered seeing the film before but my spouse did not and even if we both did it wouldn't have mattered. we were experiencing the same thing at that very moment.
