A lot of people don't seem to like all of these old-ass articles and think it's a total waste of time. There's an absurd amount of these things (47 thousand) and less than a hundred editors. And who will actually want to read all this old crap anyway? It's a wasted effort - especially when a formatted version exists on so many other people's sites.

So I was considering the following:

Remove all the old articles from totsepedia (anything that came from &t).

Rename and redesign the archive from "totsepedia" to something that reflects the remaining archives and the zoklet community.

Advertise deus's copy of the original archives (http://totse.danladds.com) as "the old archive/totsepedia" while advertising the wiki as an up-to-date archive with a similar mission.

Thoughts?

Sounds good - but is it possible to "cash in" on the old text-files google-wise, if they are not part of zoklet?

One idea would be to do what you suggested, and then if someone has a favourite article in the old Totse archives that they find useful and adequate, they could re-submit it to the new text files section.
And then maybe have deus put up a link to zoklet on danladds, just in case. Maybe just have the "hot topics" and the "community" link to this place.

In general, I think it's a great idea. We will just have to make it clear
* What is welcome in the new Zoklet text files.
* How to submit it - maybe have a public "bucket" where anyone could submit text files to, left for the editors to sort out? Integrating it with the bbs would be ideal.
* What the editors should do with it.

But not all the articles are obsolete. Also would it be a good idea to tag new files with "New" behind their names, when its from the zoklet era?
And I feel we should get some art up there, you know pretty banners and links. And maybe a section for images?

But whatever we do, I believe we should get rid of the "wiki" look for the non-editors.

It looks a lot better, credible and serious when the articles "magically" get published, like they did on Totse. Otherwise, authors feel a bit as if they are just making another thread on the bbs, which is not a good thing.

That's a good idea! I'll see if I can find some better templates for wiki so that it actually has a real front page that gets automatically updated and whatnot. If not, I'll try to find another system that's like wiki but oriented more towards text files instead of an encyclopedia-like index. I'll post back soon!

Edit: Another possibility is to have it be an extension of the BBS somehow. This would make "editor" status be part of vbul's group management system. People wouldn't have to register on two sites and it would already be pretty well integrated into the bbs.

Zok, just make a script that creates userers on the wiki from the vbul user database. Run it when someone gets promoted to editor. You might have an issue with password salting though.

Passwords would be a problem so would session sharing.

How about when an editor first logs in on totsepedia have them be authentisicated with the vbul script/salt, and if it matches create the mediawiki hash.
