This is something I though about. What if there was a species/subset of humans for which it was evolutionarily advantageous to commit suicide. But then I thought, why would there not simply be selection for shorter lifespan? Conditional suicide, it seems. Certain things make people happy due to a genetic basis, certain things drive them to the end. My thoughts were about how disturbing it would be if this group was integrated into modern society and this aspect had to be dealt with.
It's in line with the seeming paradox of altruism, which was answered by the gene centric point of view as opposed to the more simplistic specimen centric point of view. Richard Dawkins, "The Selfish Gene".
Hmm, a burden to society and lack of heterosexual activity...
