I don't know that much about the officer route for the navy. I've actually been considering doing their naval nuclear program as i have a qualifying bachelors degree and they'll pay for me to get my PhD. Because of prior service i would go in as on O-2 and probably get out as an O4. I'm meeting with an admiral next month to discuss my options there, but if i have a Phd and 6years of reactor experience i'll be looking at a salary of about 300k a year when i finish a 6 year commitment. A big stumbling block for me is that i'm a short bro, so i'm probably going to get stuck in a sub if i can't get assigned to the research station at Annapolis. and fuck living on a submarine.
