Chapter 6 is key though, since we're going to be role playing, I really encourage you to create a good description and back story for you character, I highly you to do a little research into your character and their race, which Google can help you with a ton. Then all that's left is chapter 7, which deals with starting equipment and money, which is fairly simple and straight forward.

I have two simple house rules. First, when picking ability scores, I allow you to subtract up to 4 points from half your rolled scores, and add any points you attracted to the other half (key here being that you end up with the same total points, and no score is augmented by more than 4). The other is that since we have no characters on a dungeon map, the proximity rules are a little different, so don't worry too much about that.

Well, first you're going to need the players handbook, it explains the basics of play and character creation, you can skim over the play mechanics and I can fill you in on them as you go. The book looks pretty intimidating at 322 pages, but you really don't need to read the vast majority of it. You'll want to read page 6 for an overview of the character creation process. I recommend picking a race covered in the handbook, but if you really want to play as a bugbear, you can find the important racial stats here.

Chapter 3 is pretty straight forward, pick your class and read the relevant information, then copy it onto your character sheet. Chapters 4 and 5 are pretty self explanatory, but if you need help choosing skills/feats to match your class, let me know and I'll help.
