^ I do realize that a lot of people like them, I just don't like them. But yeah, good post. If anyone actually wants to download In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, click here. I think it's terrible though.

I'm bored so I'm gonna knock a bunch of these out right now. Fuck snow by the way, my car is snowed in my driveway...

Brand New

Genres: Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, Post Hardcore, Pop Punk

Brand New are arguably the best band to come out of the early 2000s pop punk and emo explosion. Largely abandoning that style of music with 2006's The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me, the band recieved heaps of praise for their new direction, and have stuck with their progressing sound since then.

What to listen to:

The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (2006)
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mizvymknmnd
Daisy (2009)
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/285563499/brnd.nw.dsy.rar
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me marked a massive shift in sound for Brand New from the pop punk/emo of their previous albums, to a developed, indie influenced rock with some very bleak and depressing lyrics.

Daisy is a continuation of that sound, but incorporates more hardcore influences and features more shouted vocals than the previous album.

What to avoid:

Brand New started as one of those crappy New York emo/pop-punk bands, formed when singer Jesse Lacey was kicked out of Taking Back Sunday. Good thing he didn't end up wasting his time in that piece of shit band.

Mangum.

edit: although you got it right the first time, so I guess this criticism is unwarranted.

Burzum

Genres: Black Metal, Death Metal, Ambient

Burzum is Count Grishnackh, who is better known as Varg Vikernes. He's best remembered for being in the band Mayhem during their infamous tenure where the singer killed himself, the guitarist ate part of his brain, and then was killed by Varg. Varg also went on an arson spree in 1993 and spent the rest of the 90s in prison. He was released from prison in 2009.

What to listen to:

Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (1993)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ITMCK7BY
Filosofem (1997)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PBAV65EB
The first one means "If the Light Takes Us". This album was his last one released before his imprisonment and features lots of death growls in Norweigan.

The second one means "Philosophy" and was released while he was in prison. If you like Mayhem, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, or black metal with electronic influences, you'll like this.

What to avoid:

I don't like the stuff that's entirely ambient, but he recorded them in prison and they wouldn't allow him to have a guitar.

Buzzoven

Genres: Sludge Metal, Groove Metal, Hardcore

Buzzoven were a band full of junkies that could never keep together long enough to get anything done. They have released a number of albums and EPs, all containing different members except for singer "Reverend Dirtkicker", who is as of 2009 in jail.

What to listen to:

Sore (1994)
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zi9sy4cmwjn
...At a Loss (1998)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U9I1FTUT
Sore was their only album released on a wide scale, being signed to Roadrunner for about 5 minutes. It sounds like When the Kite String Pops by Acid Bath, complete with heavy sampling of movies.

...At a Loss is more grimy sludge metal, this time with less samples and more looming, angry vocals.

What to avoid:

Honestly, aside from Sore, none of their stuff is all that great.

I'm probably gonna get around to doing 1 a day if I'm lucky now, I'm going back to college this weekend.

Cannibal Corpse

Genres: Death Metal

There's no band more synonymous with death metal than Cannibal Corpse. The band rose to become the most popular band of the genre in the 1990s before lead singer Chris Barnes left to form 6 Feet Under. The band went on with new singer Corpsegrinder to bigger success than ever before. They are most famous for their gory album art.

What to listen to:

Bleeding (1994)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GSIKFT8D
Vile (1997)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=c0ov07ez
Bleeding was the final album to feature Chris Barnes. It goes to show that CC's power was more in the musicians, as Chris Barnes has released nothing but terrible parodies of old CC since then.

Vile was the first album to feature George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher on vocals. It's even better than the albums with Chris Barnes.

What to avoid:

Cannibal Corpse's albums are somewhat like Slayer and ACDC, in that they always sound the same for the most part. While the Chris and Corpsegrinder era albums sound different, they all pretty much sound the same based on which vocalist is on it.

Cannibal Ox

Genres: East Coast Rap, Alternative Hip Hop, Experimental Hip Hop

Cannibal Ox is a little known New York rap duo, who in 2001 released their only album, the monumental The Cold Vein. It was released on Def Jux with El-P handling the production.

What to listen to:

The Cold Vein (2001)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TE6T45RE
Well here it is, the only thing this group has ever put out. That didn't stop it from becoming one of the most critically acclaimed rap albums of 2001, or Vast Aire and Vordul Mega from going solo a year later.

What to avoid:

Nothing else to find, let alone avoid.

Chevelle

Genres: Alternative Metal, Alternative Rock, Hard Rock

Usually pegged as a radio friendly Tool ripoff, Chevelle started as a band of brothers in the mid 1990s. Since then, they have become one of the most successful bands in the US, attaining widespread radio play with nearly every single released. However, their lack of reliance on grunge influences and cryptic lyrics have set them apart from the Nickelbacks and 3 Days Graces of modern day US radio.

What to listen to:

This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In (2004)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=91osoj00
Sci-Fi Crimes (2009)
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TLNHKRD0
This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In arrived in the wake of their massively successful Wonder What's Next album, which has all their major hits. This album showed a more downtuned and metal influenced sound, with the emergence of the band's cryptic lyrics.

Sci-Fi Crimes takes the strange lyricism to a new height, with the subject matter now including alien abduction, sleep disorders, and anti-environmentalism. They also use even more effects pedals here.

What to avoid:

Chevelle's major hits "Send the Pain Below" and "The Red" in the early 2000s set them up as being just another generic nu-metal band. Their first 2 albums really aren't that great.

Thumbs Down Re: Everything you ever wanted to hear about the 1990s and 2000s (work in progress)

Haiti-magnitude amounts of suck here. "Connoisseur" my ass. This is more like "a bunch of random shit I downloaded in the '00s".

You have no sense of taste or discernment, and are unqualified to write any sort of guide to any kind of music.

Sorry but I gotta put this to the side for a while, I'm back in college and don't have much time to go on the internet now.
