The way I see it is music is just a hobby and it should be kept that way. Making money off of music production is extremely difficult to do, even if you're the most talented man on earth. I currently Play with musicians who have been making thousands of dollars on their producing every few months. Even my brother who's never been to music school makes good money for producing.
I never said i was going to take music classes to get a job either. i want to go to have fun and to fill my brain with nourishment. I already make money doing gigs

I agree with Godfrey. Going to school to study music will most likely not pay off in the end, financially anyway. I'm sure it would be fun and you would have an awesome time but its very doubtful that you'd make much money from it.

Keep it as a hobby, like me and Godfrey, and go to school for something a little more profitable.

I do undestand OP in which music is more rewarding than anything...but u could just do it on the side or not even go to college and just self educate urself. my one friend majored in music and regrets it. it takes 12 hours to work on a song just editing 1 bit.as much as he loves music.

I'm not sure why anyone goes off to study it unless it's some sort of way to get into an orchestra, either that or do an education diploma afterward and teach school music classes

i would spend your shitload of money on something real and then hone your music skills in your spare time the chance of you ending up rich going to music school are a lot less than at buisniess school you dont want to end up a homeless hippie do you


you could go to a trade school for a month take an oil burner class and make 30+ an hr and still be able to do your music on the side all for about 2k for the first class

If you really want to make money off music, take a degree in physics with focus on mechanics of sound, then join an engineering company for sound machines or instruments. Then you can create your own instruments and learn the theory of music on the side.

Thats the onyl way to go

You're all wrong. You should to to college for something you want a career in, not something that's just your passion. That's just stupid, if something's really your passion you will learn about it on your own.

THat being said music can lead to many careers. For example if you're going to school for music ed you're pretty much gaurenteed a job, assuming you WANT to teach. The world will always need audio tech guys for countless tasks. Performance majors are pretty much useless though unless you really are extremely talented and want to play with an orchestra or something. Same with "music therapy" I mean wtf? I've never heard of a music therapist even existing.
