Dead Man's Shoes
Has anyone seen this film? It's fairly old but I just watched it for the first time. By Shane Meadows, This is England director. One of the best films I've seen in a long time and seems like the kind of thing some people here might enjoy.
"The story revolves around the character of Richard (Paddy Considine), a paratrooper returning to his small home town of Matlock in the Peak District. Richard has returned home from the army to exact revenge on the tormentors of his mentally disabled younger brother, Anthony."
Bunch of people gave this retarded kid drugs, fucked him up basically. His brother comes out of the army and hunts them down. Really recommend it, if you're looking for a film to download... get this.

Re: Dead Man's Shoes
It is an awesome movie.
Loads of really good scenes and realistic characters. (I live close to where the films set and can recognise those types of people).
The soundtrack rocks.
Overall it's just awesome.
And not nearly enough people know about it.

Fuck off.
One of my favourite films. It goes a little off course in the last 15 minuets but otherwise it's great. The dialogue is beautiful. Just the casual chats between people come across so realistic, due to the fact they aren't scripted. Shane Meadows likes people to improvise in all of his films, and Paddy Constantine did so much improv' in this film he got a co-writing credit.
"Alfresco, what's alfresco?"
"Erm, that's anal innit, ain't that up your anus?"
"Dirty cow."
Also, Toby Kebbell who played Anthony gave a near perfect performance. He deserved a lot more attention for it.

Yeah spot on, one of the reasons it's so good. The characters are far more believable than any Hollywood film I can think of. You're right about the guy who plays Anthony too, excellent performance (and the rest of the cast are pretty flawless).

Re: Dead Man's Shoes
Hollywood would ruin this film. They've got a formula for revenge plots.
It's a great example of an understated, realistic Brit film. It's made in a way that almost makes you forget you're watching a movie, which is nice.

Re: Dead Man's Shoes
I'm not sure, it's a few years old and a low budget British film. Definitely online DVD rental stores would have it, just not sure about shops.

You should download 'A room for Romeo Brass', if you haven't seen it already. Another of Meadows films, and also co-stars Paddy Considine.

Took like 6 hours to download. And then I found out it was the French version.

His 2nd best film I reckon, after Dead Mans Shoes. I seriously don't know what else to say about this film that hasn't already been said, a truely honest, natural and beatiful film. Not a film to watch if you have an 'emotionally sensitive' girlfriend though, the flashbacks are canny heavy.
