Jobs where you're not doing the same thing everday
Mundane, boring, repetitive work would quickly lead me to insanity and depression, especially if the co-workers weren't fun.
So what jobs are versatile? Jobs where you either do something different each day, or work on something for a few weeks/months, then do something else.
*Other than police/fire/paramedic/construction.

I'm an aircraft mechanic.
We do a shit variety of stuff.
From dissembling props to fixing a 747's hydraulic systems to taxing a plane from hanger to hanger.
It does get a bit dreadful when you get paperwork.

All jobs are shit that's why you get paid. Even people who pretend they like their jobs eventually get sick of it. Just choose a job where you make enough money that you don't have to work as long.

That's what I was gonna say. Anyway, any sort of trade will have new challenges every day. Similar stuff, but changes nonetheless. Hell, I don't know, this is a really broad question. Frankly not the right way to go about choosing a career.

You could look into a job that has to do with conservation, wilderness, etc...If you aren't hesitant to work outdoors or by yourself you'll have a hell of a time wandering around the forest. I know I do.

Won't you get raided for it?
Not to mention you'd have to reset it every time you get signal jammed and it's highly illegal.

This sounds like a fucking awesome idea to be honest. When I finally settle down I'll really look into this shit.

I know a few people that used to do that. While work is good, the constant lack of money eventually gets to you.
See, that's the thing. If a job is good/interesting it won't pay much because many people would want to do it for less, hence the market lowers the pay. If it's a shit job that nobody wants to do (excluding minimum wage jobs, the market is different there), the pay will be higher. A perfect example would be investment banking and consultancy: you can either go into academia, where you pretty much get the freedom to do the exact thing you enjoy, in your own time, but you get paid a hell of a lot less than if you go into investment banking / consultancy, where they would drive you into the ground and you'll be doing a pretty boring job. They have to pay so much to make it worth it for the best of the best though.
In other words: you are fucked either way.

A couple problems here:
1). You don't earn very much.
2). The higher up you go, the less research you do and the more your job involves basically begging for money.
3). You are judged not so much on your research abilities, but on your abilities to secure funding.

Ah yes. However, like I thought about doing some forestry work, it kinda is self-explanatory that while I'm doing that, I won't be going to theatres, buying hi-fi stereo or a bitchin' ride. Mostly I'll need food, tools and transportation and ammo.
It's all connected to your lifestyle and if I choose that path - I won't likely need too much money. If I choose a more standard route, some retail promotions until I reach corporate then I'll need all the extra money I'm makin' to pay for cloths and some useless social stuff like popular gadgets, magazines or whatever those kinda people get.

Re: Jobs where you're not doing the same thing everday
I worked for a small company for a while, earning 600 a week straight away just as the introductry salary - that's 600 US dollars a week - and because it was a small company (maybe 5 employees in the office and 13-14 in the field) there were a LOT of freedoms and concessions, and even better, flexibility within your role. One day I could be rigging the next I'm in the office on the phone to several companies liasing and working out deals, the next minute I'm speaking to a customer face to face, then the boss goes out and I'm running the show for the day, the next day I get up early and go out with the boys and get on the tools and work to the capacity I feel like working and go for beer with them after, a delviery needs doing so I hop in the truck and go drive to the next couple towns over and pickup the delviery then deliver it to a site somewhere else, when I get back I grab a beer and take an hour for lunch break then jump on ebay at my desk and cruise around, then an order comes in so I do all the computer work for it then file it.
Some of the stuff I had while there:
Brand new company car, big staff discounts - pretty much cost price and its yours even if theres hours of labour involved - take your lunch break whenever you want for as long as you think's cool, go home whenever you want if you're not hugely busy, can company provided drink beer at work (Which I am going to miss!), wear whatever you want as long as the top half was neat if you were in the office that day, cruise ebay and totse in your free time on your computer etc.

That's true.
I don't like the idea of working a high-paying job you don't like, with maybe a couple weeks holiday time a year. And yes, you have to spend plenty of money on "status" items to keep afloat too.
Then again, having the money to help out the people you care about, as well as early retirement, are both appealing.

Custom fabrication is decent.
Takes quite a bit of precise work though, depending on what you're making.
But 90% of the time you're working on something different everyday.

True, true. That's why I still haven't chosen, and I'm checking out if I could make it so that one choice doesn't invalidate the other - I gotta get some skills and some fancy papers to show that I have those skills, so if I have to - I could jump back into 'the machine' and make some cash fast or something.
