I think if you look at the art and media that was embraced/evolved out of the hippy movement and the stuff that is embraced and came out of the hipster movement you see why it's a crime to compare the two. No substance in the latter. They stand for nothing bigger than themselves, the movies are vapid, the music has no substance...it's a big hole of pretension for the sake of pretension. There's nothing of merit there.

The whole culture is a case of the emperor's new suit. Music, films and art from the 60s hippy culture can still be appreciated half a century later based on their aesthetic criteria and substance.
