Lol, no, I'm not gay.
I just really believe this is a good idea and I've offered to pay for it to be implemented if only for a trial period.

I'm afraid I've go to dispute the first part.
Seems like you're willing to pay a bunch real money so you can watch naked guys soaping up.

Re: Gentlemen, it's happening...
I'm coming to this really late. I can't be arsed to read through 14 pages.
Is there a FAQ made on this? It would be a good idea to have a wiki going.
I have obligations for the foreseeable future, so I can't help too much. I will, however, be taking some home travel time to visit my family in Texas next spring. I could maybe arrange two weeks or so to visit and work.
I'd be happy to work with getting access to clean water through making a well & pump system using appropriate technology. I can also work with small scale garden farming and irrigation systems. I don't have any experience with it, but I'd love to also work with power generation and energy storage systems.
I have a few years experience working in the non-profit sector, and, as far as sustainability goes, you might want to look into incorporating as a non-profit.
To do so would introduce some record keeping requirements (yearly 990's, etc.), and you'd have to pay for a year audit. If you incorporate as a research institution (I'm thinking action research), you make it very easy for foreigners to get longer term B1 visitor and J1 trainee visas. You also become eligible to receive tax deductible donations from individuals and institutions.
There's a lot of free stuff that you can get as a non-profit. Businesses are often happy to donate all kinds of materials to young people doing something new and interesting.
You can also engage in fundraising. I've done this for non-profits in the past. It's not unreasonable to earn $200 per person per day approaching people on the street, going house to house, or setting up tables at shopping centers. When I was doing it, our costs worked out to about $5 per person per day (including food and living expenses.) So, in two weeks, a team of five people can net more than $1600.
If you're smart about it, this money can go a long way.
If you adopt an "off the grid" mentality, expenses should be minimal. You'll own the land, so there is no rent to pay. If water and electricity were produced on-site, you have only the maintenance costs of your equipment. You could pay for an internet connection (or steal from neighbors miles away using a big parabolic antenna on a tower...). Once you've got more than a few people there, you can subsist easily on $3 / person / day for food, and eat quite nicely if you're growing some of your own or increase the budget a bit.

Holy shit, this guy is awesome. We should definitely look into becoming a non-profit something or other. If I could LEGALLY live in the US as an employee of our non-profit... thing... I'd fucking jizz. After a few years I could apply for citizenship/permanent residence. I could actually get my life in order while in the states, which is where I want to end up later in life anyway.
Dear God...

I didn't read the whole thing (yet), but when the time is needed I'd like to add that I'm a tiler and I know other tradesmen who will be willing to work and help build whatever is needed. I'm getting a huge pay in a few weeks time for a reconstruction of a cathedral.

It's a TOTSE House for a reason, not a zoklet pride convention.

As long as you're not opposed to the killing and eating of animals, there is javelina, quail and dove in that area part of Texas.
There is also feral Latino.

Re: Gentlemen, it's happening...
I love the idea. But it will fail because of one simple reason. This reason also destorys tons of businesses every year...
LOCATION!
This is probably the worst spot you couldve bought for a totse house. Its so far from any city. Its in the middle of a fucking desert. No water around. And youll have to spend insane amounts of money just to build it. When its finally built, the cost just to keep the place in check will be insanely high. Also, only a handful of any of us will actually go there to visit, let alone actually live there.
I suggest you sell the land and buy land in a smarter spot. It would make the whole project a hell of alot easier.

You really should shut the fuck up and go the the thread in DIY. As for one thing, but are you buying the land? No. Nuke bought it with his own money so unless you can find another place and pay with your own money for it GTFO.

Cool you are? Do you also lay (not sure if that's the proper verb) linoleum tiles? If yes, could you tell me what linoleum is? Is it more like plastic or more like ceramic? What does it feel like?

No; but he might shower next to you then "accidentally" drops the soap.
p.s. yes I stole the joke from 0x29A. Sue me.

Lol! I like that!
Also, the reason this thread is un-stickied and its original place taken by a potted plant is because you see Fish, having been in the constant company of Japanese women (I am assuming), has started to take on their mannerisms. It is a well-known fact that Japanese women like to arrange flowers and the like to make their homes more hospitable.

this was/is stupid and should be deleted. obviously if they were still actively doing this, then this would be an active thread. whose ever idea it was to make this thread has a distorted sense of reality and needs to WAKE THE FUCK UP.
