is failing pre-employment drug tests a bad idea?

ok guys so like here's the deal. i want a better job, cause my job sucks right now. i've been looking in craigslist, there are a bunch of jobs in offices, local deliveries and stuff...anyways these sound great but they all seem to say they're going to drug test. say, if you fail a drug test for weed will these employers tell other employers about your fail in a drug test? one thing said a requirement is to never have failed a past pre employment drug test. do most places do this? also do most higher end (but still low level jobs) jobs drug test?
i guess i can stop smoking weed for a while. about how long will it take to get out of my system? i smoke everyday, but a pretty small amount. an eighth lasts me like 2 weeks maybe. i've been doing this since mid november

You can test yourself with home test kits to be safe. I don't think you failing a drug test is public information, at least at the jobs I've been tested for.

well this is good advice but I don't really need to do this, because what I'm worried about is getting hired, then them being all like "ok so you need to take this drug test first" and of course I'd fail it right now, because I smoked weed yesterday. I'm just hoping I get lucky and get hired at a good place that doesn't drug test

It usually takes about 2 weeks to a month to get completely out of your system.

Just drink lots of water and exercise and it might speed up the process a little bit but not by much. If they do the urine test you can get the cleaner drinks that will make pee clean for a couple hours.

That's an interesting question. In some places they'll just swab your cheek AT the workplace and use a home test kit right then and there. They did that to my ex-gf for work at a coffee shop. Some of the big places though will send you to a lab like Quest Diagnostics. I've pissed in their cups and I can certainly see them keeping my data and having it still. I imagine if I failed and got tested today and pissed clean, they'd still have on file that I failed on X date Z days/months/years ago.

No, not really. Not if you want to have a stable source of income.

Most high end jobs make you take a polygraph test and will ask if you have smoked in past 3 years.

I think there are ways to trick the polygraph machine but it takes time to build up that skill.

its such a bummer. it would be cool if they didn't drug test, but the problem is, is that people who drugs apparently don't care about breaking rules, so that's one thing right there. also lets face it, lots of ppl who do drugs aren't reliable, and a lot of them break other laws all the time. they don't want that kind of employee

Drinking water over a period of time will have no use in getting THC metabolites out of your system quicker. Drinking a bunch of before the test will possibly dilute the levels below a level that will test positive, though. If your urine is too diluted they can tell though. I believe some B vitimin will take care of this, possible vitimin b12.

Have you looked into having someone give you clean piss or synthetic piss?

I've heard (on here I think) companies are not allowed to divulge drug test results to others for legal privacy reasons.

B vitamin is for color I believe, since uber clear piss = diluted = fail
