Question Thoughts on the 1911?

Just basically wondering if anyone owned one. I never fired one but it looks like a fun gun to own. I might go to the range and shoot it a few times.

it was the first handgun i ever shot and my first pistol i like the 1911 as long as it had good mags and 230grain ball ammo it runs fine its accurate and reliable

most of the probelms with the guns come with the fact that its been copied by so many companies and there are a ton of mags parts and guns all with slighty diffrent tolerances or variations

i like the usgi 1911a1s

None better. Get as many as you can. Original USGI models in good condition tend to be the most reliable.

If the 1911 was a woman, I'd marry her on the spot and fuck the shit out of her anally as soon as I could get another boner.

Not that great. Only holds eight rounds, anti-ergonimical design, expensive, jams, inaccurate. A better choice for a .45ACP would be the Hi-Point .45. At least it's price is almost justified, and it's way more accurate and reliable.

A fine weapon in all. Old usgis are best as others have said. Most new ones have problems, I dislike that its single action and only holds eight rounds. Sure you can carry cocked and locked but I've never been comfortable with that.

Actually I find M1911A1's to be extremely accurate, as much as .22LR target pistols, in fact.

And it's one of the most ergonomical designs I have ever handled. It's as reliable as Glocks and others, too.

Some modern imitations are, of course, of lower quality, but the original ones are the best.

Plus, it's very easy to find drop-in threaded barrels for suppression, and .45 ACP is already subsonic

A standard USGI spec Government model with good 3 dot sights and 7 round mags that say COLT on the bottom would make an excellent defensive pistol. Do not mess with match barrel or tighter frame to slide fit BS and you will be just fine. The less fancy shit your 1911 has on it the better it will work. However you should just buy a CZ75 or a Glock and live happily ever after.

I built a 1911 from a Foster Industries frame, Sarco parts kit, and no-name slide I found on gunbroker. All of this for $400.

Shoots great now that I've got all the bugs worked out. It stumped me for a while especially when I took measurements to a known good RIA 1911 and it was only out .010". Ended up being that the recoil spring guide was binding up the slide. A little filing so that it would fit right and everything was smooth as butter.

Yep. It's not a design that takes well to close-fitting parts. This is a 100 year old pistol designed with old technology in mind. If you buy "match" grade parts off the shelf you will likely be disappointed in the accuracy compared to the reliability. You'll get both by sending it to a competent gunsmith.

But 1911 pistols are pretty much extremely accurate out of the box already.

1 to 2" groups at 50 yards are satisfactory, even for target use.

Thoughts on the 1911:

I've always wanted a 1911. Someday I'll have more than one.

100 YEARS!(really over 100 years for the basic design)

Those are my thoughts.
