Heroin was the drug of choice for black people from the late '40s to mid '80s when crack came out. There's still plenty of black junkies around though, but crackheads outnumber them significantly, especially in the cities. The black fiends are usually older guys who got introduced to it before crack came out, and have been lucky enough to not have something bad happen to them in 20 years. There aren't that many young black fiends, but I have come in contact with a few. Usually women.

there's loads here in the UK, but most do crack too. i dont know about the states but a lot of users here use both.

Not necessarily, others filled the void. Lucas went down in '75, crack hit the scene around '83-'85. That's a good 10 years.

Frank Lucas wasn't the only heroin dealer in NYC buddy. It doesn't mean heroin just disappeared.

He was one of the major guys, though. Nicky Barnes and Sammy Gravano from Brooklyn were his major competitors. When he got nicked in '75, they moved in. spot on there. when i was using i wouldnt even think about buying white unless i had brown sorted out first. i had a friend who would get up with £20 in his pocket and go straight out and buy a 20 rock, be done with it in half an hour and then go on the rob all pranged out on it. fuck knows how he did it, that shit would leave me feeling all irritable and shitty for hours and i would be too fucked up to be able to think straight enough to rob.
