Plus the PS3 version will have Steam features, and not only that, but if you buy the PS3 copy and link your Steam and PSN accounts you'll get the PC/Mac version aswell at no extra charge!

Valve made a promise last e3 that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be shipping with various steam enabled features, which’ll be a debut of Steam’s functioning on a next-gen console for the first time.
Today we get to know about what exactly those feature are going to be.

The PS3 version of Portal 2 will come with cross platform play (Mac/PC vs PS3) for multiplayer games, a persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games and cross platform chat (Mac/PC and PS3).
Also, those who purchase Portal 2 for PS3 can unlock a Steamplay enabled copy of Portal 2 (PC & Mac) for free and all they need to do is link their PSN and Steam accounts.

Here’s what Gabe had to say:

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”
“We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers,” said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. “PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites.”

Portal 2 releases on April 18 in the US and April 22 in Europe for PS3, 360 and PC.

It'll probably show you who's a PS3 user when you play with someone anyways, plus it's not like it's a 16 vs 16 thing. It's 2 people and you'll usually play with a friend or something. Cross-platform gaming is THE FUTURE.

That's why I think it'll work with Portal, it isn't intense action FPS where aiming is everything and bad aiming is a huge handicap. Portal is more about puzzles than shooting.

Hey, Ep 3 is the only game I want to see right now (and for the last three years) but I'm being realistic, it may well never happen and almost certainly not this year. I also think there's L4D2 DLC coming out this year so that pretty much guarantees EP3's not gonna show.

My opinion is Ep3 is going to be one of the first games for the next gen of consoles.

It gets better: PC mods/levels can be played on the PS3 (and on Xbox 360):

"The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there's a bunch of depedencies that require the Windows platform," he said. Yah, probably. But what's crazy is that if you play HL2 today, a game that's 8 years old, if doesn't feel dated at all and is of better quality than half the games made in the last year.

The source engine is just superb. It was made to run even on shitty pc's back then, or really juice powerful rigs. Props to valve for that

Yeah, let's make PC gaming even less accessible,that will surely promote its growth to over take consoles and be viable compared to them once again. Keep the curve as high as it can go to keep it an insider "boys club".

I don't think anyone ever disputed the accuracy difference between a mouse and a joystick/analogue d-pad. Having said that, you're stupid for thinking games can't be fun with a controller.

For one the mouse+keyboard combination puts you in an awkward position as opposite to a controller which is far more comfortable to hold.

Besides, I bet there's players out there who would own you with a controller. It was the same shit people gave me when I played counter strike with a trackball. I still owned everyone and got accused of cheating on a regular basis.
